Marino mentioned on 790 the Ticket today that there may be a time when he would want to join the Dolphins on a perm basis.

I haven't been a big fan of this move, but after seeing Ross' unwarranted allegiance to Philbin, I am beginning to think this may be the best move for the franchise.

If Marino joins, at least we would know that we have a guy in charge who cares about the Dolphins, and one who knows football and has football connections. In addition, he is a no-BS guy and would hopefully tell Ross like it is. He won't stand for a bunch of losers running the team into the ground.

I still don't know if he has the chops to be an executive, but at this point it's worth a shot because it's clear that Ross is an absentee owner who trusts whatever his "football guys" say, no matter how inept they are. I would rather Marino be the "football guy" Ross confides in.

If Marino was the head guy with the Dolphins,

every GM and agent in the entire NFL would be lining up for draft day trades,

player trades and new contracts. :chuckle:

It would be like Black Friday pandemonium NFL-wide.

At least it will be exciting eve if it is a bad move.

they hired him before and he quit after about 3 weeks didn't he?

I support it. Marino is not stupid. He would surround himself with grizzled personnel men to help him make decisions.

I still want Joe out.

Ya, I don't want Marino making personnel decisions, I just want him to be an overseer, like the task master holding all these guys accountable. I would like him to hire a competent personnel guy to work the draft, free agency and trade market.

The problem right now is that the front office is running the asylum with Ross away. We need a guy we can trust to oversee the operation day to day to make people accountable.

In some sort of consulting role, Marino would be great. You have him, Shula, Jason Taylor, maybe Zach Thomas and Offerdahl ... guys that knew what it meant to be Dolphins. I don't think I'd want any of these guys drafting or making trades, but I definitely would like to have them be the guys that have Ross's ear (no jokes, guys) if he keeps the team, particularly getting input on potential GMs or coaches or stuff like that.

Bill Polian can do what you guys are asking.

I think this is a possibility. Does he really want to commit to the hours needed to be a "czar"? His kids are older, he might be tired of playing golf, nice vacations, flying to NY for weekends on CBS NFL today show. Overall, I think Ross does his best to NOT be like Jerry Jones because we know that can be very annoying to any head coach. He is giving Philbin a full chance (at least 3 yrs) to turn things around, unfortunately year #2 hasn't been promising since losing to the Saints.

Bad idea. Why would we or Marino himself want to have him attached to a mess? If he is in charge of anyhting (Like what?) that means he would be accountable. If he is not meant to run football operations, why would any die hard Marino fan want his name being muddied if this team fails?

Please answer, what exactly would he bring here to help us win?

I'd love to have Marino in some kind of capacity working for the Phins. But that didn't go too well the 1st time he tried it, he lasted what a good 3-4 hrs? Hehehehehe!

Accountability to the front office. Right now, these guys have free reign to do whatever they want since Ross is away and doesn't know any better. E just keeps rolling with these guys based on his own personal feelings. Marino would be the overseer, he would cut through the BS and hold people accountable if they aren't performing.

EXACTLY.

Our legacy and future need to be brought together. Look at the impact John Elway has on the Broncos. He is a galvanizing presence. Granted, he's just more than a figure head. But his presence brings together old fans and new fans. He bridges the past and the present.

We need more than walking guys out onto the field during half time for their yearly hand wave.

NOW, I must say I don't want Marino overseeing daily operations or making football decisions. I just don't see that in his resume'. But, I believe the organization needs a leadership council. A group of ex-players and ex-coaches that are charged with protecting and promoting the legacy and Dolphin brand. Commission them to create a "Dolphin Hall of Fame" building. Make them and it MEAN something. Build and embrace a legacy and brand.

They may not have management ability, but these guys are untapped resources we NEED walking the halls. These guys could be used as a resource by the organization and players. A way for both to seek out help with problems and provide advice, leadership and mentoring.

I said this in a previous thread, when will we start using our living legacies as RESOURCES and not just statues?! Get them involved in more than a token way. We need everyone. We are all here to make the Dolphins a better organization. Why must we isolate and alienate our players, coaches and fans... PAST and PRESENT? Bring it all together. Instill ownership in this organization and let the collective whole build an environment to be proud of.

Dolphin Pride.
