Look at the recent teams that have gone for a win now at all costs mentality vs teams that build through draft and smart FA moves. Look at the recent super bowl winners. Look at the hangover that the Jets are in now. Look at the "dream team" Eagles last year.
Now look at the current Miami Dolphins. We likely wont get Manning and that does not make us a "laughing stock" as 11 other teams aren't getting him either. Everyone hates the term rebuild but circumstances have forced our hand. The FO could have kept an unhappy Marshall who will likely be suspended for at least 25% of next season. We could have overpaid for splashy FA Wr's after losing Marshall but half of the FA's have issues of their own and all of them so far have been vastly overpaid for their talent level. We are instead taking the correct path, the hard slow path that actually has a chance of working in the long term. Like it or not the Philbin era begins with rebuilding. And under the circumstances this is the only logical way to go for the dolphins to try to regain greatness.
I think we are moving to a GB model as opposed to a Jets/eagles style big splash in FA win now at all costs model. Like many I was really hoping for winning now but in our current circumstances (New Coach/not getting manning/marshall problems) I think I would rather build for the future now then bring another circus situation back to Mia by trying to sign a bunch of splashy FA's as a quick fix. Like it or not the circumstances we are currently faced with which we cant change have led us to this path. The Philbin era must begin with re-building if we want a chance for the dolphins to get back to winning.
