Homer Assessment from the Weekend...

I agree that we would have done better than the Broncos, but the Pats would have rolled us too.
Probably 44- 24. Once they going, there is no stopping them.
In game 16, the Pats were asleep and we pounced on them in the first half. In the second half, they tore us to shreds. There are only a couple of teams in the NFL that have any shot to beat the Pats for differing reasons, and all of them are still in the hunt. I would keep an eye on San Francisco. They are for real. If they can get past the Giants, they are legit IMHO. They are relatively unfamiliar to the Pats. It should be entertaining games next week. I think the Pats beat Baltimore easily and meet SF in the super bowl. Just my guess.

Yeah I agree, it won't surprise one bit if the Pats crush Baltimore. The key will be Flacco, if he can keep pace it could be close. I don't see the vaunted Baltimore defense shutting down the Patriots.

flacco is underrated...he throws probably the best ball down the field outside the #s...she's always spot on...and he doesn't make the mistakes in the clutch that beat you...unlike so many other qbs

Not saying I totally disagree as shown by his comeback TD pass to Torrey Smith for the win vs. the Steelers, but that MNF game this year against the Jaguars it took him 57 minutes to get the Ravens 7 points.... then got the ball back with a chance to go down the field for a win, and on his first pass, was picked off and ended the game

yes i know its one example, just happens to be the one I remember watching that game

i think baltimore provided they get physical with gronk and welker at the los has a very good shot this weekend...one thing about cam cameron though he has way too many screen play tendencies in certain downs and distances...way too many...houston snuffed them out i expect beli to also if he goes that route too much...cam cameron imo is not a hard oc to read

thats true...laid an egg in that game...whole team did really...that said he went to pittsburgh and on a last minute drive took them the length of the field for a td...and had torrey smith drop a would be touchdown before the one he planted in his chest for the td...

i don't watch flacco and say to myself here comes the big mistake...i always think you're in the game with him

Flacco comes up small in january too often for me, you guys always complain to me about the Jets carrying sanchez but Bal has been the team carrying it's QB in Januayr. Better play from him and they would have at least been in the title game the last 2 years and probably a SB. He needs to come up big this week for them to win- he doesn't need eye popping #s but he'll have chances to make plays and he has to take advantage of them.

he needs to have a great game no doubt about that...ray rice needs to gash the pats front like he did last year also when the ravens took them out...

i'm sure you won't agree and thats fine but i'd take flacco over sanchez...

Miami has considerable holes at quarterback, safety, pass rusher, offensive tackle, guard, wide receiver, and tight end. They may lose a dominant DT because they mishandled his contract last year. They have no coach or assistants. The remaining coaching candidates out there are unproven. They have a quarterback who is inaccurate and can't lead his team down the field to win a game late, but can beat low end teams. They haven't been able to find a quarterback in 13 years, and their GM has no track record of identifying a top drawer quarterback. They have the worst home field advantage in the league. Miami has struck out two years in a row on their self identified top coaching candidate. Other than that, they are in great shape to make the playoffs even though they have only done this once in a whopping 11 years.

The Ravens are more physical than Miami. They have a better OL. They have a better passing game. They have a better running game. They have a better pass defense. They have more playmakers.

Miami is obviously not even close to being in NE's class. NE embarrasses Miami, year after year. NE is thrilled Miami is in their division. Couple of gimmes a year to pad their record for home field. NE has more young players and more draft picks. They have three quarterback prospects better than anything Miami has trotted out there in 13 years. Their coach gives them a 10 point head start against Miami. NE has an outstanding owner who gets it. He probably does an extra prayer every night that Steven Ross was born for him to embarrass and torture.

The Giants have an excellent coach and are built to win in the playoffs and when it matters. They understand that you need a qb and pass rushers. They are a great organization who hits on their draft picks. Their roster has very few holes. Miami doesn't have any of this.

The 49ers have a coach who wouldn't go to Miami even when the Dolphin owner flew out to see him to beg him to come. They have a dominant offensive line, running game, and defense. They have a better organization than Miami. They fell on hard times and came out of it. Miami falls further and further into quicksand.

They need a quarterback who can lead them to tough wins. They don't have that guy. They need playmakers at receiver and tight end on offense. They need playmakers at pass rusher and safety on defense. They need a re-built offensive line. Their GM has not been able to fix the OL despite 4 years of scouting and drafting. We've seen Ireland part of the process that brought in Joe Berger, Justin Smiley and Jake Grove. Trading away Samson Satele? How about Donald Thomas and Shawn Murphy? Or Marc Colombo? Despite all those whiffs, we are supposed to be confident that all of a sudden Miami can fix their OL, even though they need to address other major holes? That's alot of mis-identification of talent. Its a trend, folks, not a coincidence. What's literally worse, the GM has never found a quarterback that can go win games for you.

I have no idea how anyone can see where the Dolphins are now relative to the top teams and think we are on the verge. I am not sure we have hit rock bottom. Miami is a laughingstock. I can't think of many franchises in the NFL this low.

A fan is a consumer. If a consumer buys a defective product, the consumer pushes back. Here, Miami is so defective its like product liability. Its like buying a toy car and having the car catch on fire. Yet fans of the Dolphins are enablers. They put on a happy face even in the face of the most obvious dysfunction. It enables the franchise to continue in their ways while the owner and even his socially awkward GM make millions.

Ray Rice needs to have more carries and touches for the Raven to win. Their defense must carry them.

Flacco over the dirty..

i agree with this. flacco deff is underrated, stats are not brady like or rodgers like, but the guy is more than capable of making the throws, and when he has to, he does, such like the pitt game this year. the guy is starting in his 9th playoff game this coming sunday and he came in to the league in 08. deff agree.

who do you like in both games this week?

alex smith that last drive by him was big time...to throw that ball into that window when you can play it safe and kick a fg and go to ot takes stones...if that safety jumps that ball for the game clinching int smith would have never been able to live it down...that was fantastic stuff...

heck he was damn good all game long...all game long...

I have been one of Alex Smiths biggest defenders, kid has had 7 different OCs and systems int 7 years. Who would flourish under those conditions? Not to mention he had no real weapons to throw to until they drafted V. Davis. Kid has the physical and mental tools, now he has a coach to put it alle together!

I think some of that is fair. Its definitely time for him to take the next step. He wont be playing Pitts defense again in the playoffs this time, so he has little excuse to lay an egg. I think its going to be a good game and I wouldnt be surprised if either team won.

i don't know the lines but i like the giants who look to me like the hot team similar to the pack last year and ready to make a run and eli is playin at a top 5 qb level this year and i like hmmm....the ravens

yep...i think smith has gotten somewhat of a bad wrap thru the years...that said he's not getting a cupcake defense away from the dome like he did saturday this week in the giants...he's gonna have a lot of heat from that d front

take a look at the weather in SF this week....the 49ers are going to win.
