alright i'm thru reviewing the first team oline and qb play plus the first team defense...

some notes...first on henne

the first henne int is absolutely on anthony fasano...the db is squatting to the outside on the play henne throws the ball where only his man can make a play the inside shoulder and he can protect himself from a big hit on the outside while still being able to secure the ball before the trailing coverage backer arrives...

the second int henne comes to the los and he reads cover 2 which is exactly what it looked like...the db grimes comes up and squats near the los henne sees it and bess begins to flare out towards the sideline while still slowly flowing downfield but leaving plenty of space for the ball to get to him before the approaching cover 2 safety can get there...but grimes doesn't just squat when he comes up...he's reading henne's eyes the whole time and he immediately beelines it back into the known hole in cover 2 and makes a play on the rope ball...basically grimes baited henne on that play...henne thought he had cleared grimes and it would be an easy pitch and catch as long as the ball was on a rope on the outside

According to Sparano and Henne, Bess ran the wrong route on that 2nd pick. But again, he still stared him down and threw it. Otherwise I agree on the Fasano pass. People complain he didnt lead him, but if he would have Fasano would have gotten decapitated. What did you see from the Oline?

Sparano corrected himself on that today. He said it wasn't Bess' fault.

now the first team oline...

vernon carey graded out in my view as the worst run blocker at right guard...in the first quarter when we kept trying to run to the left side careys man kept flowing down the los and making the tackle or getting in on the play at the los...carey graded out solid in pass protection outside of one bull rush where he was walked back into henne...imo we didn't gain more hay on the inside running game to the left cause vernon carey couldn't handle his man

mike pouncey fires off the ball...he graded out very well...made solid sustained contact and he's by far the best athlete on the oline i saw..center play was solid...he looks good...sat down well in pass pro and anchored and showed good feet

colombo gave up one edge rush pressure but overall was pretty solid...i saw him against abraham a few times neutralize him...

incognito for what we asked him to do was solid also...not much pulling or asking him to get to the 2nd level...a couple times we brought him around behind the center at the snap and to the right guard and he just got stood up...he's a much better straight ahead player than move player and its painful to think he's the left primary move guard on the inside...but i digress

lydon murtha not bad...didn't show up for anything negative really didn't show up for anything stellar either...i think he can be the right tackle in our offense when long comes back if/when colombo falters...

I agree that 1st INT was on Fasano. That 2nd pick was just terrible though. Typical Henne. And further proof that he can't read zone defense for ****.

i don't see how it can be bess fault when the balls on a rope directly at bess...if bess runs the wrong route based on the coverage that balls not in the known cover 2 hole...in front of the safety and behind the squatting corner

i don't care what sparano said

first team defense...langford and starks both got washed out on big running plays...just turned and moved completely out of the hole

cam wake getting a lot of attention on the outside...on the starks pressure and hit of ryan wake has beaten the right tackle back to the inside but the right guard is right there waiting for him and gives him the business...starks take advantage of a man to man opportunity and whoops his man good to put the hit on ryan...we need starks to provide pass rush pressure cause wakes gonna see a lot of double teams...and we're not winning on the other side

So on that second Int by Henne was that on Henne or just a great play by Grimes?

Even if Henne didn't stare him down, Grimes would have still made the play becasue the Dolphins only sent out 2 WRs, and the checkdown never popped out. It was both, but a really bad read by Henne.. Only way Henne could have fit that ball in there, is if he threw the ball on a timing route instead of waiting for Bess to end his route.

didn't notice the number of wrs...i'll have to look at that again...but imo grimes was only dropping back there at that rate because he was reading henne...if that kids heady enough to squat and then beeline back to that hole cause there was no other coverage responsibility on that side he's pretty damn aware of his surroundings...i think it was more baiting henne...reading his eyes like so many dbs have said they've done prior

boy do i hope we don't get an injury in the starting lb core..i'm looking at way too many average athletes in the 2 deep in francis, edds, spitler, and trusnick...way too many

trusnicks high energy but going nowhere pretty much as far as beating someone on the edge...i hope edds has more wheels and instincts than this...although he's the best of the ilb depth group...spitler needs to be cut...francis is an edge setter...provides a little bit of power rush...albeit a slow one

where's the athletes???

to my eye the worst lineman in the 2 deep is feinga at left guard...stiff on the ground too much ran over...no thanks

nate garner at right tackle has got his hands full with lawrence sidbury...its not pretty...but sidburys got high end tools
