Hoops scoops...Brandon Albert tale of the tape 2013

Hoops, do you think he is underrated as a run blocker? If we need some tough yards in the run game, can we run behind him? I don't get the sense he is just a finesse athlete as a pass blocker. He may be well rounded.

I don't know about underrated as a run blocker...I don't think he's a guy you are gonna be able to drive guys off the Los straight ahead and just run right behind for tough yardage...more a angles blocker in the run game...more the zone fit in that regard...doesn't have to have a great angle to be effective cause of the lateral athlete...I do think he can be a guy that collapses the edge as a down blocker...he can drive guys into a pile and create soft edges in the run game as a result...I also think cause of the lateral athlete more wide and off tackle run calls should be in play...last year with McKinnie on the left side we wasted downs pretty much trying to run wide behind he just couldn't move laterally anywhere near at the same level...Albert gets to things that McKinnie and clabo could not

One of my biggest problems with the online last year was we didn't have guys who could overcome angles everything had to be ideal and in a zone scheme with what we asked them to do athletically our guys just couldnt do it...the personnel didn't fit the plan

I think it's a valid argument that Miami went from the worst left tackle in football last year in Jonathan Martin to a top 10 guy at the position in Brandon Albert. Albert might be top 3-5 in pass blocking.

I would also say that this is the first time in Joe Philibin's tenure here that he has the players to fit the zone blocking scheme on the offensive line. Not saying there aren't question marks, but there are move athletes in Albert, Ju'Wuan James, Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner.

he is more than up to the job at LT, thats not in doubt. But im still terrified about who plays LT when he misses his usual 4 games. Hope Turner is ready for the deep end!

Albert isnt elite, but will play solidly at any level be that preseason or the playoffs - thats not something ive been able to say about a fins LT besides the pre injury Long - who was a big step up from Albert
