you are gonna have a lot of back side off hard lateral movement he entire line weakside leak out opportunities with the tight end if what i think is coming does...you have all the roll out calls to work with and the defense by the spread formations we line up in will give you things in the flats etc and expect to rally to the ball...the difference between scheme driven production and player driven is pretty much the ability to defeat or dictate to coverage...defenses will give you some things with their coverage schemes and your play design but can your player take things or force the defenses hands...do you have something they don't expect or aren't willingto give you talent wise...

you can force teams to declare coverage with formations and motion...i expect lazor to make defenses declare...not to mention the late motion with the tight ends means teams will account for clay as much as possible cause he's proven and other tight ends should have favorable matchups...clay told the league last year you must account for me

Thanks for the explanation. I definitely see what you mean. It will be interesting to see with all the receiving talent (did I just write that?) on the team, how the ball is spread.

Overall the offense looks pretty similar to last year's in terms of production. Can't run the ball, force Tannehill to beat you with his arm, max score 20 pts per game. Why does it look so similar to last year? Because the running backs so far have been the same as last year. I agree, Lamar Miller has lacked vision since day one. Also, this OL needs to learn to run block. They are doing outstanding pass protecting, but if they can't run block and we become one deminsional like last year, the pass blocking will breakdown. Turn it around by getting a RB with vision, and teaching the OL to create a crease and tie up the DT's arms for the RB.

Running the ball is not nearly as important as it used to be in the past. A poor running game won't set us back terribly much.

Good job! Landry is potentially not only the best receiver on the roster, but hopefully will turn into the best we've had since Marshall (and be a helluva lot more motivated and a better teammate too.). However, in the here and now, factoring in dependability, clutch, route running, fighting for the ball and additional yardage, IMO Gibson is our best receiver and should be lining up on the other side of Wallace with Landry in the slot.

Good point.....it is actually a beautiful thing watching Landry pluck a ball out of the air with those amazing hands.

There is the possibility that Lazor doesn't want to reveal what he can do with Egnew in the preseason. If he was genuinely on the bubble, why wouldn't you throw in some plays to test his pass catching? There was none - we saw nothing. Which means that he probably won't be cut.

Good write up...

I like what I see out of James on the right side....he has been playing the position like a NFL tackle should (a change over what we saw the last two years).

Landry has so many good traits about his game that you can't help but be excited about what he can do....nothing flashy, but he will consistent and over time DB's will hate playing him because of his physical nature.

The first team passing game has looked very good....I like Hartline, but he is limited in what he can do....guys like Matthews, Gibson and Landry are going to feast in this offense and Wallace should get his opportunities.

hey i'm sorry but he's a between the 20s wr and a to the sticks one...which made him under shermans easily readable offense the bait one...in the red zone you do him a favor if you play zone and you can sit on the slant routes in off coverage...or at least you could under sherman...

We do need Knowshon, that's what I have been saying, too. It's not good enough. And now even with Lazor - he was the test, Miller is showing no signs of breaking out. He's fast, that's it. He's not physical, not elusive, once there's contact he goes down, he's not shifty...he's just speedy, and if there's a clear hole in front of his face, forget it he's gone, but other than that, there's nothing.

Meanwhile...Carlos Hyde, the best back of the draft is shining. He's even catching passes out of the Pistol:

First round pick next year for Miami has to be RB or TE. I remember you or someone saying RB is going to go early in the draft next year because the players are so good. We have to get one. I think everyone underestimates the importance of a good running game and a talented running back.

I watched the first half at a local bar with some friends, and my buddy was telling me about a recent trip from which he recently returned. When the D Jordan got beat in coverage (on the play you highlighted), I interrupted his story with, "****ing brilliant! Tell him to gain 25 lbs and THEN put him in coverage!" This staff has blown it with Jordan - from the move up to draft him, to his development.

Assuming Miami stayed at 12, we could have drafted either Sheldon Richardson or Star Lotulelei - or even Eric Reid, and then at 42, we could have had our pick of Kiko Alonso, Jon Bostic, Jamie Collins, or Arthur Brown. Or we could have drafted any RB aside from G. Bernard. We could have Eddie Lacy. I would have just drafted Zac Stacy in the 3rd or 4th, but still . . .

Instead, we got Dion Jordan and asked him to bulk up to play DE.
