hoops scoops cowboys fins...

Excellent write up, Hoops.

One thing that bugs the life out of me: Why in Hades does it seem like every other NFL team has a kicker that can boot it out of the endzone on kickoffs and kick 60 yard field goals... and a kick returner than has amazing quick twitch and 4.3 or lower speed... and we for YEARS can't get a KR to run lower than a high 4.4 (Thigpen -- terrible vision and sub-par returner) or now, a another 4.65 possession WR to return kicks and punts. PLEASE PEOPLE! These special teams yards are guaranteed yards IF you have a real kicker and a real returner!

Didn't we try the Bess experiment at KR and PR? Isn't one go round w. a 4.7 returner enough????

I guess a team that over-values possession WRs will also see no use for an actually fast and quick returner. And a soft-legged kicker, lol

LD

while I agree about wanting a speedster for returns, for love of god stop bringing up 40 times constantly. Jacoby Ford was cut though, wonder if he could offer anything in the return department or as 6th we over Williams

Saw Ford on the cut list again, something must be up for him not be able to stay on a roster. He has speed but maybe he is a terrible route runner? Would much rather see Willimas return punts then Landry.

Ford signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March after leaving the Raiders, but the speedster had a disappointing preseason. He had just three catches for 19 yards in the three games.
In Friday’s loss to the Giants, he muffed a punt while filling in for sidelined rookie Jalen Saunders. The top two candidates to be the team’s kickoff returner are now Clyde Gates and Saalim Hakim.

Good write up...though I must say if I didn't watch the game I'd think we got beaten badly reading your post.

I am not nearly as negative as you overall on the results of this game.

I thought Tannehill played well minus a couple plays...and was really let down by some drops and a fumble.

I love how we established the run and thought James played well...I particularly was impressed when he was at left tackle and contained his man allowing Williams to get around the corner for a nice run.

I hate how they killed the first drive with runs though as they moved right down the field...they had momentum and totally stifled it.

Agree about Landry...have all along....the kid has too much future as a receiver to risk injury there.

I think both Williams will make the team.

I love that the defense held the Dallas offense to 13 points...and that despite losing the turnover battle we outplayed them.

I expect mistakes this early and expect continued improvement as the year proceeds and you get a stable lineup and everybody settles in more.

Thanks again, Hoops! you never disappoint.

Good write up, except Moore did not outplay Tannehill. Moore had a pick 6 and almost another one. He was up against 2nd and 3rd stringers. He had 2 good throws, the deep throw and seam route at the end of the game. He also almost got Landry killed with a ball high and behind him that Landry made a great catch with. The last drive was mostly great runs, one good pass with the seam route, and a big help with Cowboy penalties.

dude give it up, yes he did.

we know since moore signed with the fins u have not been a fan of his, but if hoops, who is by far the biggest tannehill supporter on the site, can admit that tanny was outplayed by moore, and everyone else saw the same thing, then its ok for u to admit that he was outplayed that night.

to me, i dont give a damn about the preseason, but if tannehill plays like he did last year, or he plays like he did sat night, this team will be in a lot of trouble, and it maybe time to look for another qb to guide this team for the next decade or so ( and no i am not saying moore is that guy either)

It's so funny...almost every year on many teams naive fans don't allow for level of competition when evaluating 1st thru 3rd stringers at QB.

Moore gave them 7 points when a throw that should have never been made was made.

boy am i seeing an awful lot of zone drop vs our offense...and a lot of underneath routes being run by us...i think if miami trust the protection we've got to threaten teams more vertical hoping it's just saving it for the regular season...not necessarily over the top but in the intermediate at least...tons of underneath zone routes and clear outs

Which Williams? Damien - the RB? They can both return. Damien is the most physically solid but Damian has good hands.

Give what up? A QB who throws a pick 6 and almost another one against back ups does not impress me. I watched the entire game. Also "everyone else" didn't see the same thing. There are many that saw what I did as well. Both QB did things well and did things not so well. Tannehill's mistakes did not put points on the board for the other team. Also 2 drives were stopped by a fumble by Sims and a dropped 3rd down catch by Hartline against STARTERS not against 2nd and 3rd stringers. Once again, Moore did not out play Tannehill. Also, I really do like Moore a lot, just as a back up.

I think we should start calling Damien R2D2 from now on to clear up some confusion. Tannehill calls him D2 and the R signifies RB. And if he goes on to become great it would be a good nickname.

i'm sticking with matt moore outplayed tannehill...i fully realize his run came against the 2's and a sprinkle of the 3's even but he had a cleaner more efficient game...and he made three really good throws for chunk yardage...the deep ball to williams where the safety in the middle of the field got caught too flat and he dropped it in the bucket over the top the seam route to hoskins where he read the coverage well and the safety position and delivered the ball timely and accurately and the vertical in cut to spadola for a big conversion...sure he missed some things bounced a ball to the flat that in this offense can't happen and had a couple balls i thought placed not all that great but he made plays with what he had and he executed when he had chunk yardage opportunities...a few times his raw receiving options didnt help him also

the pick 6 i think is more a function of the play call than anything else...

the read option keeper he should have walked in once that db bit inside but he's just not athletic enough and got tripped up...he got what he wanted when he kept it he just ran out of athletic talent

Yes Spitex I was thinking of the running back, sorry should have clarified. To be honest either over Landry IMO.

I agree a lot with what you said…

That Tannehill interception was about as bad as it gets. I have no idea what he was thinking on that play or what he saw….just sick to your stomach bad. As for the rest of his play…very average.

I really like what I see out of Damien Williams as a runner…nice burst, runs hard, can break tackles and has enough drive to move the pile. I like the lines he takes when he bumps it to the outside…rides it tight and moves as he needs to….very natural. Good as a rotational guy for this year.

Moreno is clearly the best runner on this team….sees holes and hits them hard. Understands the positional nuances.

Hoskins is a natural football player, very raw, but has things that can’t be coached.
