Hoops scoops...season imploding Mia buffalo

This is a frustrating loss, no doubt. Playing at home against a young Buffalo team without its starting QB and we were coming off a bye ... it really stings. But, to be honest, 3-3 is where I expected to be at this point in the season, just with Atlanta and Buffalo flipped win/loss-wise. We are in contention for a wild card slot ... and that's about what I expected. No doubt that THIS loss stings, but our season is most certainly not imploding. We lost a close one to Baltimore that we should have won. We lost a close one to Buffalo that we should have won. But over the last season and a third, we tend to win those close games, so eventually we are going to lose some close ones. It's not the end of the world.

As for the OLine, I have been saying that for a long time. I was repeatedly saying all offseason that we needed to re-sign Jake Long and that Jonathan Martin simply wasn't ready. He stunk as a RT, and he's the worst in the league as a LT. Kid may become a quality starter ... but he's not there yet and doesn't look to have a chance to become that this year. He simply is too weak to play NFL OT right now. As for Clabo ... well I had some hope, but the guy was not successful in a zone scheme before. It was only after he moved to Mike Smith's Atlanta Falcons and their power scheme that he really looked good as a RT. Eric Winston WAS successful in a zone scheme, and is doing much better than Clabo this year as well. I'm still mystified at how we keep making the wrong moves personnel-wise along the offensive line.

We let a good pass protector and exceptional run blocker in Jake Long go ... mistake. We moved the unsuccessful RT Jonathan Martin to the ultra-competitive LT postion and he has failed miserably ... mistake. We took Clabo instead of an Eric Winston who fit the scheme and practically begged to be here ... mistake. We didn't trade for Branden Albert ... although I didn't see it at the time, in retrospect that was also a mistake. Instead, we drafted a guy who clearly cannot play OT, Dallas Thomas ... mistake. We didn't even get into the discussion for the ridiculously cheap trade for Eugene Monroe ... mistake. There's a lot of wrong moves at the critical OT positions. We have Pouncey who is a good C. We have Incognito who actually is a pretty good G. Next year I'm almost certain that we let our best OL go--Incognito--and try to force the poor Dallas Thomas into his spot to save cap space. Over the last few years, we've put a lot of resources into the OL, and all we have to show for it is Pouncey and Incognito ... who I think we jettison in the offseason. Not wise.

This game was bitter, but the season isn't lost. We will simply have to do it without an OL.
I expected 3-3 as well and that would be good for a playoff run. However, when you see this team continually come outill prepared and lose to a Bills team coming off the bye, thinking playoffs is wishful at best. The first three weeks you could see the cracks. They are now exposed for all to see.

Rough to watch....Tannehill put them in a hole and had two ugly ints, but I give the kid credit for putting those mistakes behind him to put the team in a position to win.

The offensive line played a little better and I'm going to question coaching a little on the end game sack. Which coach thought it was a good idea to put Clabo 1 on 1 with the man beast Mario Williams? That's just poor game planning...especially at that point in the game. Tannehill is partly at fault on that fumble, but anyone will have a hard time holding on to the ball with Mario William giant club smashing down on it.

The defense is such a frustrating unit...3rd and whatever yardage the other team has....lets ignore their best playmakers....bull spit.

Couple of positives...

Running Backs both ran hard and fought for yards...I like the improvement in that area.

Gibson is a beast....two nice TDs....he is a great pick up and a very smart "broken play" WR.

Odrick again played extremely well and Dion Jordan was in the mix for the few plays he is in there....He needs more time on the field.

No doubt Tannehill had a few bad throws with the interceptions. I don't think anyone is giving him a pass for having his first bad game of the year, but that final strip sack was completely on Clabo. Even with the interceptions, Tannehill was able to lead drives to overcome those turnovers. The OL failed us during the most critical point in the game. Its the second game in a row where we were in position to win or tie the game in the final minutes, and the OL let us down again. I knew Clabo and Martin were not good football players 6 months ago, so I cant say I'm surprised, but I'm not sure there is much we can do to fix it this season.

The one in New Orleans was bad as well.

The picks were definitely bad.

I mean routes get jumped, and thats our bread and butter. Those are gonna happen.

But the one to Hartline was such a ***** throw. He could've just rocketed to him way sooner instead of a duck right to the defense

I think shouright is somewhat too dismissive about how bad the oline is, but he is absolutely correct about the game Tannehill played. Everyone wants to pin the game one the sack/fumble that finally broke our backs, but doing that ignores the buildup to that point which included scores of Tannehill mistakes that were the reason it was even that close of a game. And many of those mistakes were made in clean pockets. Even on that sack which was Clabo's fault, Tannehill still doesnt have to fumble the damn ball. He fumbles about 6 or 8 times a game it seems.
Precisely. You can't take the end of the game and look at it in a vacuum and expect to have any kind of realistic appraisal of the game as a whole. Clabo and company contributed nothing to the early interceptions, and they provided the protection necessary to help dig the team out of the hole created by them. On top of that, Tannehill changed a run play to a pass when the Dolphins were 72% likely to win the game.

This one's on Tannehill, folks. Sorry. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong. If the play call was originally a run, the offensive line (Clabo) would have been in the right position to try and execute the play. As Tannehill checked out of the run to a pass play, it could be said, "He never adjusted the protection scheme to fit the pass call". It's my belief the protection scheme or O-Line adjustments weren't made to help facilitate the pass play. Normally you'd see a RB or TE move into position to help pass protect in a situation like that. If I'm correct, than Tannehill needs to learn more about directing his players accordingly to run a certain play. In this case, I'm not sure he did so and it cost Miami the game.

you would have never gotten the lead in the first place if tannehill didn't make plays to get you there...i get that he put you in a hole but he dug you out of it too...how bout the 3rd td pass in the red to take a 4 point lead where the bills rushed 3 and dropped 8 tannehill didn't panic he he didn't force anything he left the pocket at the right time when the backside pressure was finally coming free and scored a td on essentially a scramble drill play...

yes the oline gave him time on the play which is shocking in it's own right but the qb made that a td vs a field goal...

hell on the 2nd td he gets rid of the ball on the shallow crosser to gibby who had just come open at precisely the right time a nanosecond before he is hit and driven into the ground...

someone make a video cut of all the plays that he has gotten out of off poor play by the oline too please cause there's plenty of those also...i get that you don't get a clean pocket every play i get it but damn you got guys whiffing in space or getting picked up and carried back to the qbs lap all over the place with the protection on this team...

the tackles are horrendous

heads should roll , and now!!!!!! but will they f===! , where do you start ? at the bottom and work upwards or top to bottom ??

had enough of this type of play and so called performance

I know how bad you wanted Tannehill to lose this one for us so that you could validate one of your many terrible threads, but Tannehil lead this team back from a 14 point deficit, and we had the game in the bag until Clabo blew it. We were winning, then the strip sack happened.

Serious question, did you actually watch the game?

It's amazing to read the board and see so many different takes on this. I cant believe some people are sayign that the O-line played well or even better. They played POOR and if you really want to put it into prospective they played worse. Sherman did EVERYTHING I thought he would to protect Tanny and he was still under fire all day. There is not much more he can do to protect the oline except for run 1 man routes like the steelers and max protect. BUT that only works when you have an above average running attack.

I made a thread the second the final whistle blew saying to cut Clabo. That was not a knee jerk post. That was actually after pondering the best course of action. To me Clabo is worse off than Martin. I think cutting Clabo and moving Martin to right tackle might not be such a bad move. Then I know - WHO TALES OVER LEFT TACKLE???? Anybody for that matter. game planning for 1 weak tackle is much easier than game planning for both. I think Martin will becaome average at right tackle.

It is clearly time for a change. What Miami has been doing is no longer working.
