How do the Patriots do it? How does New Orleans do it? What is the secret sauce?

You see what happens is when you "REBUILD" you get your GM then your HC then your FRANCHISE QB then surround him with WEAPONS and actually WIN games. Not go 6-10 or 7-9 but actually have a winning record. Other franchises DO NOT settle for that and that is our problem. We are ok with being a ****ty boring mediocre team.

One thing i have noticed is that the Pats generally trade down in the draft to get multiple swings at the bat in rounds 2-4. Some hit, some don't. In contrast, Ireland traded up to grab Jordan, with no results so far. Also, the Pats have been adept at accumulating round 1 picks for guys that they think are about to head the wrong way. Sonewhow they've managed to create loyalty from their players, while giving no loyalty to them. Maybe because guys like being on a winning team.

Very good quarterback play, coupled with leadership among the players that establishes and maintains a winning culture.

Those two ingredients could probably compensate for just about any amount of typical dysfunction elsewhere within an organization.

They don't run the same damn passing play for 30 straight snaps. They run screens to hold off the rush.

Are you putting Alex Smith in that catagory?? How the hell does Andy come into a 2-14 club and then go 9-0???
Turnover margin there, another variable strongly correlated with winning, but don't expect that to continue to cause the same kind of play in the absence of better play by Smith.

In other words, you can overcome an average-level quarterback with some other variable that's very strongly correlated with winning (turnovers), but since turnovers tend to be wildly random throughout a season, you should probably expect some regression from the Chiefs.

I don't buy into the whole notion that it's just the marquis qb. Sure they always have to in the game or can bring you back but history is full of great qb's, even HOF qb's that never won a Super Bowl. I think much of this rests on a coach with a good scheme who drafts players who fit his scheme and not settling for guys who don't that they repeatedly try to convert.

After watching Duke football play awful for years & years the ONLY time they have competed and won games is when they had a real coach. Steve Spurrier won there in the 80's and Coach Cutt is doing it today.
If Miami ever gets off the mat a good Coach will be at the helm and behind it. I dont know what it is they (Good Coaches) do or have others dont but it matters on the field.

Good QB play is necessary but not sufficient for high-level competitiveness.

In other words, if your quarterback is inadequate, you're likely going nowhere. However, a good quarterback alone doesn't guarantee Super Bowl contention. Other pieces of the puzzle are needed.

That is a one-year case. I think the discussion is more on how a team maintains it year after year. Pittsburgh is another team (though not this year), that has had a culture of winning for a long time.

The Saints and Pats would win with nearly any starting QB in this league. Coaching, coaching, coaching. 90% of their success is coaching. (And a little cheating)
