How do we insert Nick Saban and get Wanny results?

HELLO SIRS IT IS PRE SEASON CALM DOWN

Ummm yeah. I bet you were amongst the crowd who were chanting this mantra same time last year. Same type who 3 losses into the regular season still screams....its only 3 games "calm down".

I see the same mistakes we made last year being made this year. Same problems from last year in PRESEASON that lingered and carried over into the REGULAR SEASON. So maybe its just me.

:rolleyes2

It was a tribute game to WANNY. It made him feel more at home:goof:

WANNY is a curse. The phins need to get pedro soriano, jobu, and a live chicken to excorcise the Wanny demon:lol:

What I'm hoping is Saban is hiding this team for Denver. Hoping he's hiding the playbook, telling players pre-season means nothing...just get some excersise and don't get hurt. Then come game day against Denver they come outta the trojan horse kickin butt, causing commentary desks across the country to go speechless. So what if the Phins go 4-12..they're my team...always will be. These threads that discuss the weaknesses and shortcomings we have are ok, but theyve been talked to death. I said b4 the Phins will go 11-5 and win the division outright, I believe they will. I hope....those two words sum up a fans outlook. Lets try and be positive because if you wanna hear woe it is to be a phin fan turn on ESPN. go Phins!

For what it's worth, last night just seemed to be a mentally vacant performance. I'm a little concerned, but only because I don't share the original poster's view that the mistakes we saw last night have charcaterized the entire preseason. They haven't: last night was an obvious backslide.

I'm hoping it's just the mental fatigue of a long preseason.

Yeah, its preseason...but damn I was hoping for a cleanup of at least the penalties and mishaps which we have endured under Wanny. So far I see no difference.
Turnovers, dropped balls, missed tackles... :lastyr:

I hope not.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I haven't lost faith in Saban, because this IS, a work in progress. But I was expecting some improvment in certain areas. I have not seen it yet.

It is pre season, but to discount the ineptitude of this team so far is a mistake. They did not game plan to suck. The problem is Saban did not bring anyone in to address the 2 biggest weaknesses on this team last year, the OL and QB. Because of this oversight, or mistake, or whatever, we will not be that good.

You are wrong when you say Saban did not address the 2 biggest weaknesses on this team. First of all he signed Houck one of the top 3 oline coaches in the league. He then signed Stockar McDougle to play RT. Stockar was a part of a line in Detroit that allowed the fewest sacks the past 2 seasons. Then Saban signs Frerrotte which may not be the QB you want but he knows the new offensive system we are running which should not be underestimated just because we have not been successfull in the preseason. And he is giving time for our 2nd rd draft pick in Feeley a chance to succeed. Saban believes in coaching and this is what he believes will make the difference. To say it was an oversight, mistake or whatever is just plain ignorant.

It takes time. In 2 years I doubt that any of the current starters on the offensive line will still be starting. Maybe Carey or Hadnot if they continue to develop. Other than JT the same is probably true for the D-Line. (JT may even be gone due to cap) Who knows who our QB will be in a couple of years.
Saban has done a very good job so far...he has drafted pretty well with Ronnie, Daniels, Crowder, maybe Roth, plus some promising projects from the later rounds/supplemental draft. Im sure if we had like 20 picks in the draft Saban would have addressed all of the Dolphins needs, but since we didnt he did what he could and will have to add the remaining pieces in the next couple of years. In the meantime, he got some decent FA stopgap players so that we might at least be respectable.
Add to the mix the fact that the players are all learning new systems on both offense and defense. This is significant because when a new player joins a team he usually gets some help learning the system from his veteran teammates. This isnt possible when the systems and coaches change so the rookie or free agent player will take longer to get up to speed. As for the vets... you cant expect a couple of minicamps and a few weeks of training camp to be enough to learn a new system PLUS correct all the bad habits that were tolerated or even fostered under Wanny (and of course Tony Wise).
Give Saban a few more weeks and I think you will see an overall improvement in performance. Give him a couple of years and I think we will be serious contenders.....something that could never be described as "Wanny results"

Someone started a thread before the first preseason game and asked what people expected to see from the team in it's first game. I replied that I was interested in seeing whether the mental part of the game had been improved (i.e., the false starts, offsides, turnovers, missed tackles -- the things you mention). I thought that this was the biggest area where Saban would make a difference as opposed to Wanny. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the improvement that I would have liked to date. Now, I understand that it's preseason as well, but these mental errors should really never happen, whether it's preseason or not. For instance, a false start -- that has nothing to do with game planning; just know the snap count or just watch the freaking ball. I just hope that I do see the improvement I was expecting by game 1.

The players he brought in are not addressing the situation, he brought in scrubs, no one who has starter talent. Anyone can bring in other people's cast aways, he did nothing to address the situtation.

How do you watch pre season football and expect regular season results. Who cares what happens now. Wait for a few regular season games before creating a thread titled like this will ya?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Where have you been!???? Coaching has been underrated. Look at the patriots. Never the superstar players just coachable players. They are not phenominal athletes, they are coachable and believe in the system and players are willing to take a pay cut to get players in just to be on the team.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is this clown trying to fool???...

PHINZ RULE!!!

patriots won sb in 2001, didn't even make the playoffs in 2002. what changed? the coaching staff didn't.

last time i checked shanahan won bacl to back superbowls with elway and davis. hmmm..he hasnt even won a playoff game since those guys left.

funny thing, holmgren won a superbowl with favera. what's he done in seattle? i know one thing, and that's not won a playoff game.

and you know that guy parcells is pretty good in dallas and they've pretty much sucked since he's been there.

who else am i missing.... ah yes gruden. inherits the bucs, wins the superbowl. next 2 years, doesn't even make the playoffs.

the list goes on and on. you don't win in this league without players. just ask nick saban. he hasn't even coached his first regular season game and he's already figured that out.

Maybe you don't care, but I do. Last year when you watched our ineptness during preseason, were you shocked that it carried over into the regular season? I was not.

Expecting a cleanup of the penalties isn't asking much IMO.

I was +thinking the same thing when I watched some of the game on saturday.. Then it hit me.. It's only pre-season. Pre-season is the time to do stupid stuff like this..

If it carries over into the regular season, well, it doesn't matter because this season is a wash.
