This is a good team, don't late your hate cloud your mind. They have a top 6 defense, new offensive scheme, revamped rushing attack, one of the leagues best receivers group, and a. They are better on paper today than they were in 2010. They won 7 games last year, and there is no reason to think this team can't add 2-3 wins to that total.
The Dolphins won 7 games last season and were in the playoff hunt before falling apart in December and losing their last three games. They have proven they can compete with the league's best. They beat the Super Bowl Champion Packers in Green Bay. Lost 23-22 to the AFC Champion Steelers due to a blown call by the refs. If they call that game correctly, Dolphins win 22-20. They beat the AFC Champion runners up(prevented them from scoring a touchdown) in New York.
Is this team going to win the Super? Highly likely. Is this a potential playoff team? Absolutely! I think a 9-7 or 10-6 record even with Henne as QB is very realistic.
Just because things are new doesn't equal better. Our new offensive coordinator coached one of the worst offenses in the league despite having arguably a better run game, quarterback, and offensive line. Our own offensive line is not solidified, as we continue to put players in different positions instead of locking them down so they have time to work together.
And our running game revamp? We just lost 2 former pro-bowlers who could run between the tackle and both carry the ball upwards of 20 times a game. We replaced them with a oft-injured running back who has never ran for more then 600 yards in a season and a rookie who is fumble prone and runs upright, but makes up for it by being slow and having no burst.
Our biggest problem last season was the lack of quarterback play and we did nothing to address that. Worse, we did nothing to improve the coaching of our current young starter. We fired our quarterbacks coach(who admittedly did need to be fired) and replaced him with a wide receiver coach. I'm not saying Henne will fall apart again, but the cards are certainly stacked against him and our coach keeps getting ready to throw him under the bus again.
And ill ask here, concerning your other post, as to save space: Why in gods name are you bragging about Sparano not being fired and getting an extension? He was almost replaced, very publically. It was a national embarrassment for our team. Our coach was emasculated in front of the press on a daily basis during the entire saga. Our owner went so far as to fly across the country with our GM to the potential replacement coachs house. Before receiving his awesome extension, negotiations had broken down so far that Sparano reportedly
quit and walked out of the room before Ross ran after him to try and calm him down.
I mean, did you even watch the extension announcement? Sparano refused to even glance in the direction of Ireland and Ross. He was grinding his teeth so hard surrounding cities probably thought tanks were rolling in.
We did nothing to improve our teams biggest flaw and we quite possibly downgraded one of our teams previous strengths. We did improve defense, but that already proved to be a stellar unit and couldn't win us enough games to have a positive record. With games against Houston, San Diego, Dallas, Philly, New England, and New York Giants(who did improve their offense by getting healthy at the line) many of us question if we can score enough points to keep up with those teams. We dont automatically look at that schedule and say "SWEET, were going to win ALL of them!!!!". We are going to be a tough team, we will play hard and our defense will give it their all. But, we will struggle to break even. And if our team gives up on our coach(which they have already done once) then all bets are off.
