How much money are the Dolphins on the hook for Tua?

I just don't think it's worth it. He's got the signing bonus and salary. He can go to arbitration for some of the remaining. He can have his family. His life. Have a lucrative future career as an announcer. You put all that at risk by trying to play.

The juice isn't worth the squeeze if I'm him.
Public speaking doesn't seem like his strong suit and he's not really the attention seeking type. I doubt he does media.

Tua should not be given a pass to his guaranteed money. It was his horrible decision to dive head first knowing his concussion history.

Let him get cleared and move on in the offseason.

The NFL won’t let Tua play another snap. It’s up to how the Dolphins want to handle this. Last thing they want is Tua dying on the field after two horrific brain injuries featured on prime time. The backlash to the NFL will be forever, it’s not worth it to them and frankly Tua’s quality of life.

We will get smoked at Seattle, beat Tennessee with Skylar. Tua comes back against the Patriots and we are 3-2 in early October. Yawn...
If Tua does come back don't expect him till after the bye week.

Season ending IR by Monday is the only good look for the team. Tua retires end of the year with his signing bonus and salary for the year. Everyone wins. Anything else is going to be a disaster for the NFL and player.

What about the balance of his signing bonus…are you predicting he’ll collect the balance (124 Million) or the percentage of the signing bonus (54 Million) that he has already collected? I don’t think your line of thinking is far from what will happen…just curious about the bonus.

I don't think Tua will want to walk away from this team, this coach and football. I could be wrong, and if he does choose to retire, I'll respect and understand his decision. But based off everything I know about him, I don't think that will be the case.

Exactly I could post another rant about there being almost zero evidence that a few big hits leads to long term problems and that everything we know says hundreds and thousands of hits plus big hits is what is very bad and being a qb he takes substantially less hits then 98% of the nfl.

But there’s no need because he’s likely to be cleared and if you know anything about Tua, you know he was pretty much bred to play football. Dudes dad used to beat him when he played bad and that was before the millions. Add in his Samoan heritage known for being tough and Tuas heart and will for the game and I see it being almost a zero % chance he doesn’t return.

My guess is a negotiated deal between player and team. Technically Miami does not have to give him any of that 124 million assuming he is medically Cleared. But I think they will and should. Maybe even a job in the organization comes into the mix.

The guy is married with 2 kids. It's not like it was a few years ago for him. If he has to make another tough decision about his future, it could be a different decision this time.

I won’t link it to concussions, but there are some posters here with some very short memories.

Steve Young had 7 career concussions. Aikman had 10.

Take aside the increased sensitivity in this ultrajudgy world we live in, Tua is still several concussions fewer than those guys. I suspect if the decision is his, he will likely choose to play. And everyone acting like he’s some strange anomaly and walking on eggshells for him should remember these other QBs who went through the same and more and were simply expected to play.

I’m not saying what’s right or not. I’m simply saying the smart money is on him playing again. And then possibly, again.

I think this is a good topic discussion IF necessary.

I think we are all way jumping the gun.

He is going to be cleared to play in 1-2-3 weeks. 100%.

And he will return to the field the moment he’s cleared with about 80%+ chance.

Now if it happens again? Who knows. But at this point he is ABSOLUTELY getting cleared and *probably* not choosing retirement.

I think everyone is just a little too into their feelings. Let’s take a step back…
Youre most likely being level headed and logical here, but its hard not to be in our feelings

Just such a kick to the balls after being healthy all last year, and then to throw it into the blowout loss, and he could've slid.

I'm sure he'll be cleared to play, but now I feel like the whole fan base is ready for another shot at a qb who wont leave us so nervous when he goes down now. It just feels like a time bomb now.

Thanks for posting for reference

Big Ben has had several concussions, and no one thought he needed to retire... well, at least not until he took a dump in the urinal, but that's not nearly the same thing.

Time to turn the page, it was never a matter of if but when he was going to be concussed again. This time he ran head first into a defender when he didn't need to *after* all the other occurrences. Even if he did come back he'll do it again the self-awareness and athleticism is just not there. Ross and the NFL has the money to pay him we've all learned our lesson. Never again is the takeaway when you have a top 5 pick and undersized injury prone players are on the board.

You are not him though and you are looking at it through your own eyes as someone who doesn’t want Tua to be the QB of this team anyway.

Football has been his whole life, I think he will find it very hard to walk away when he knows that the injury was his fault and entirely preventable.
The injury wasn't his fault. Could it have been avoided? Sure. However, that's a normal everyday tackle. The fact he sustained a concussion on such a basic tackle does not bode well for his future in the NFL.
