how much of a raise is jake long in line for?

I don't think he understands that... They almost go hand in hand. you can't throw the ball if your constantly getting sacked 2 seconds after the ball is snapped.
I can understand if we had Carey or st Clair playing LT. You don't let a sure fire hall of famer walk, if you do what does that tell other players about the way the dolphins take care of our own good players

been watching dolphins football for 25 years and the LT is overrated and we don't need to go giving a broken down LT $100 million dollars, and the reason we were not successful from 02-08 was because WE DIDN'T HAVE A QUARTERBACK! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
Not to bust your chops too much here, and i respect you as a phin fan. But the fact that you have Sparano's name in your title says enough to me.

WTF has that got to do with the question I asked you?

oh and by the way...how many Super Bowls did Marino win for us?

Sparanos loves to go on about the LT and the absense of a QB. I will just venture to say, if Tom Brady had a LT like Jake Long and not Matt Light...they win the SB last year. Why? Because JPP would have been neutralized from the start.

But oh well. You just smashed his argument. Unless he wants to declare a HOF QB not a 'real' QB.:rolleyes2:

The fact is that people are crazy if they want to give a beat up LT $100 million dollars, it is pure insanity! Bill Polian just said before the draft the the LT is overrated and he always told his scouts to draft 1. A QB, 2. Passrusher, 3. somebody who can score touchdowns and 4. CB's who can turn the ball over, it's 2012 people not 1985, you dont need a $100 million dollar elite left tackle, just give me a decent LT and a QB who has a quick release, good WR's, a good TE, and a good defense with passrushers!

umm not really because Matt Light helped the pats win 3 superbowls and he was mediocre

IDK how to change it lol
You know i'm just giving you a hard time man. I know where you are coming from for sure, but i find myself extremely happy that we are establishing a backbone to our line and i'd feel like we are setting up ourselves for failure if we start the hunt for a LT all over again.

You're going into attack mode and NOT ONE PERSON has argued that Long is worth 100m. who the **** said he was? ME? who? Nobody that's who. You're arguing against a senerio that no one has proposed. All of us here are thinking we keep jake for a decent price, and none of us think 100 m is a decent price. Is that what you think it'll take to keep him? if so say so, and we agree with you Jake is not worth 100m. That's HOF QB money. Not HOF LT money.

Not to deplore this post, but it's a sad state of affairs when we have to remind fellow dolphin fans that Dan doesn't have a ring.
yeah sorry, when this thread went into jump off a cliff obtuse mode I figured why not carry out that arguement to its logical and depressing conclusion.

You don't let a guy who is about your only stud player walk just because he plays OL.

Im all for keeping big jake within reason. If hes looking to go megadeal, he can walk. I dont see him as that greedy type though, i think hell want to stay here and workout a deal both sides can live with.

This....just about sums it up for me.

I don't remember anyone advocating giving Long a $100 million.

If Polian had drafted a better LT, maybe just maybe, Peyton would have had a better post season record instead of getting beat up all the time by the Steelers and Patriots. Yeah I know the Colts won one super bowl but that was because their defense came to play late that season and their running game led the way in that rain soaked game in Miami.

Who said we'll be giving up 100 million? Is that what Jake is asking for, is that what we offered? Because I havent seen any figures yet, the only thing I've seen is Joe Thomas money (7yr 88 million)...

Bill Polian is no longer a GM... He looks like a genius because he drafted Manning, which was about of a no brainer as they get. and I'll tell you one thing, had Polian had the 2nd pick in the 98' draft, he would have taken Leaf. Not to say Polian wasnt a good GM, just saying he happened to get lucky having the #1 pick when Manning was there for the taking.
