he is already the highest paid member of this team and i would imagine the highest paid lineman in the NFL...so if we are going to resign him how are we supposed to give him a raise?

Personally I do not want to handicap our ability to sign talent next year. giving him a raise handicaps us. i would rather trade him this year than let him go and get nothing for him next year...

so how exactly are the dolphins going to handle him?

He is not getting a raise, if anything his money will decrease.:boohoo:

raise ? I don't know depending on salary and upfront money the next few years I'd imagine would be more cap friendly than his current deal.

Let Jake Long walk. People need to wake up and smell the coffee he is the 2nd coming of Tony Boselli. His body is breaking down and it showed last season when he got smoked on the edge all year. Bad knees, bad shoulder, bad back, torn biceps. Were gonna go give a LT $90 million then he will crap the bed. Let him walk, sign a mid level above averege LT and use the rest of the $ on pass rushers, WR's and CB's. The Saints, Giants, Steelers, all won SB's without "elite" LT's. The LT being the second most important position in the NFL behind the QB is the biggest myth in the history of sports. Where has Joe Thomas got the Browns? Kick Murtha over to LT next year and I will be fine with it, don't go spending $90 million on a LT!

I agree. He isn't even they type of LT that Webb was IMO. He gets by on size and "reputation". However, he still is better than 80% of the rest of the league so we'll have to pay him market price, which means he may break the bank again. best case scenario, the new kid slides over from RT seamlessly and lets jake hit the jackpot w/ another team. Love the guy, but injuries are def. a concern here. He is in a contract year, and knows it. Wouldn't be surprised to see a great year from him, but Ireland drafted smart this year in preparation for 2013.

been watching dolphins football for 25 years and the LT is overrated and we don't need to go giving a broken down LT $100 million dollars, and the reason we were not successful from 02-08 was because WE DIDN'T HAVE A QUARTERBACK! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

Ask Dan Marino if Richmond Webb was overrated.

as far as long being broken down, yeah it's disturbing, but who knows, he's played through injury (for good or bad) and he could be healthy going into this season. the dolphins like the rest of us want to see a healthy long for an entire season before recommitting to him.

Now that we do have one you want to let the best LT in the game walk?

Im all for keeping big jake within reason. If hes looking to go megadeal, he can walk. I dont see him as that greedy type though, i think hell want to stay here and workout a deal both sides can live with.

Long has missed two games in four years. He couldn't use any of the team's facilities or trainers due to the lockout and played through a pretty brutal injury. He says he's 100%, and I'll take his word for it. If his play proves otherwise I'd consider trading him mid-year or letting him wak, but a healthy Jake Long is one worth paying a lot of money, left tackle or not. The man has the potential to be a hall of famer, and frankly I'm sick of letting all of our good players walk.

One can only hope. With the Dolphins reportedly being about 50+ million under the cap next year, they have the room to resign Jake at just about any contract he wants and still sign Wake to a new deal.

I don't think he understands that... They almost go hand in hand. you can't throw the ball if your constantly getting sacked 2 seconds after the ball is snapped.
