how to destroy an nfl franchise

i think your right... he'll be starting by the end of the season.

I hope so, since it means we've found a good mid-round steal. That could turn our secondary into a real strength when Poole comes back.

the fourth round CB tandem of Poole and Daniels could be really big for us in years to come. Remember that we have the undrafted Shirdonya Mitchell as well and our secondary is looking solid and very young. Which is good for a rebuilding team such as ourselves.

the nicktator has a new depth chart out, and from the looks of it, his judge of talent is just a wee bit diffrent than spielstedt's. in my opinion, these are the players that may have played their last regular season game as a miami dolphin:

-derrius thompson
-wade smith
-taylor whitley
-donald lee
-lamar gordon
-travis minor
-jamar martin
-dario romero
-bredon aynebadejo
-eddie moore
-corey jenkins
-tony bua

The jury is still out on Smith...
Gordon, although talented is not living up to his talent
Minor has played well this camp and his getting axed would strickly be a numbers game. The question is will he want to keep a more versatile back like Morris over Minor or go with Minor's better pass receiving and KO returning skills ?
Martin is a beast at FB...His hands are a little suspect making him expendable, but he simply put, just doesn't fit the Linehan mold of a FB...put him in any NT style offense, and he excell.
Romero is a not a 2 gap DL...more of a traditional DT in JJ's D...but he has been nothing more than a backup and we have a plethera of DL right now.
Aynbendejo, Moore, Jenkins, Bua...all 4-3 LBs and good STers (maybe not Moore). That is why Wanny had them on the roster...they don't fit Saban's mold so are expendable. Moore still has a chance, but it is a slim one...Glenn may get his spot.

Your analysis is skewed to the players being no good, but that isn't the whole picture..most of the players are just not the type of player that fits into Saban's picture...Also, keep in mind that every player you listed was a backup, not a starter..with a new regime, it makes sense that these guys would go...Saban wants his players on the roster...don't play it all on less than acceptable talent...

BTW...I surprised that Thompson is still here myself...he should have been gone last season..

I agree 100%. I think that what is currently perceived as a weakness could in fact be one of our teams best assets a year or two down the line.

It would be good to go back to a top quality secondary again.

The funny thing is I said this same thing when we were making these picks, or at worst one year later. Hell even Dave only kept most of the guys he picked for a year or 2. Thank god we gave up a deffinite starter, and got the interception machine in AJ Feeley. In fairness I was for the move if it wasn't a 2nd round pick. We could have gotten him for a 4th hell maybe a 5th. It reminds me of watching Freinds. They always used this joke with Joey's charicter. Someone would offer him something great, and he would say no I want something worse then realize what they said. I have a feeling it was a pretty quick phone call between Speilman and the Eagles.

"We will listen to offers for a late round pick for AJ.
No we will give you a 2nd.
Deal!
Doh!"

actually the eagles were turning down 3rd round picks for him...

and the 2004 draft was a great one really... we got carey whos now our starting LT, we got poole who should be our starting CB, we got hadnot our starting RG or C... to get 3 starters out of a draft with no 2nd and 3rd round picks is pretty good... and bua might still make the team and pope too... last years draft was pretty solid

how very true and i will add feeley and eddie moore to this list.

Don't be to hard on Moore.....The kid really isn't that bad, just injury prone.

I thought by the title of your thread, this was about a book co-authored by Wannstedt and Spielman.............

please add AJ to the list.

and Ricky Williams is still on the roster. and he was "basically" 2 1st rounders.

I agree with some of your post, but you threw some guys that are not ready to be cut yet...And also..Yes Spielman was around for those 5 years, but he only had power of gm last year, which he got V.Carey, Bua, bla...bla..Feeley. He still screwed the pooch and yes..in 2 years we should be totally surrounded by Saban players and be Super Bowl Bound.

as much as they'd like to consider cutting aj feeley, reggie howard and
our all-time favorite seth mckinney, their hands are tied for a multitude of reasons and these scrubs will remain with the team for one more season.

so the number of spielstedt casualties is likey going to be around 12, and could easily be 15 or more if we said the hell with it and went into full rebuilding mode.

but going by the depth chart and preseason performance, when the dust settles the dolphins will only have 8 players remaining (chris chambers, seth mckinney, randy mcmichael, yeremiah bell, vernon carey, will poole, rex hadnot and derrick pope) from the 35 draft picks selected in the 5 year spielstedt era. that's only 22% and i would imagine puts us somewhere near the bottom percentile of the league.

also, of our 11 first-day picks (rounds 1-3), only 3 players remain (chambers, mckinney and carey). obviously, after this season that number will drop to just 2.
the numbers don't lie....
-no players from the 2000 draft are still here (6 picks).

there will only be:
-1 (chambers) from 2001 (9 picks).
-2 (mckinney, mcmichael) from 2002 (5 picks).
-1 (bell) from 2003 (9 picks).
-4 from 2004 (it's still early lol).

from 2000 to 2003 that's 4 players remaining from 29 draft picks! unreal...

so, my fellow dolfans, this is the blueprint on how to destroy an nfl franchise.
not only does terrible talent evalutation lead to terrible drafts, but it also leads to trades for guys like aj feeley and lamar gordon, and the free agent signings of jay fiedler, ray lucas, damion mcintosh, and reggie howard.

let there be no doubt that dave wannstedt and rick spielman butchered this franchise just about as bad as it can be done.

despite this hack job masterpiece, we're all hopeful that saban can work a miracle in 2005, but you can only run from a series of bad drafts and aquisitions before it finally catches up with you. we can't afford any injuries because we have zero depth from terrible general management, and more often than not in the nfl no depth = no success.

so when you hear all the so-called "experts" picking us to finish last but saying that we will be back in 2-3 years this is why. because barring a miracle we will finish last in the afc east, but we have a legit operation now, run by proffesionals that will rebuild the franchise into a legitimate contender within 2-3 years.

Good post man. I dont completly agree but its veryintresting none the less. You at least SOUND like you know what ur speaking of. lol, and thats saying alot compared to some on this board.

they don't fit because they aren't any good lol. come on man. if a guy can play he can play and if he can't he can't. jason glenn and derrick pope are 230 and they're gonna make the roster even though 230 is not a saban lb.

you're right that coaches want their own players and sometimes certain players do not fit a system, but you're drawing dead here bro. look at the wanny drafts from both chicago and miami and the players he signed through FA and trade....

You may be off a player or two in your analysis, but your point is well taken. You made a great case that Wannyspeil was a disaster and their incompetence set this franchise back at least 2 years.
