How would you have handled offseason? Would love to know

I see a lot of Philbin firings but nobody saying who would have replaced him. Big time draft impact.

I retain Philbin and do a lot the same. I would have overspent for Byrd over Delmas and likely a different younger corner over Finnegan.

Ill be honest, I would have let Philbin walk. He was pushed to sack Sherman & turner and his firing would have allowed Ross to hire the GM he wanted

Who would have replaced Philbin? Hmmm...whoever our general manager chose. This is the reason we didn't get some of our first choices for GM; they would be tied to Philbin. You sack everyone and bring in someone you trust to run an organization and let them do the hiring and firing.

I would take Wisenhunt and Horton, Zimmer & Turner, Pettine & Shannahan, Bill Obrien & Romeo Crennel or even Kubiac & Wade Phillips over who we have at the moment

I hope and pray I am wrong about Philbin, but this team showed ZERO heart last year. When the going got tough, they gave up. Maybe he turns around this year...

I would have kept Philbin. Not because I think he's a great coach, but he isn't a terrible one. Attracting a quality candidate would have been very difficult with the GM position in flux, as well as the recent scandals and debacles that suggest a rudderless franchise. The lack of continuity with the Dolphins is an issue, and Ireland was a bigger problem than Philbin. I also don't buy the idea that having to keep Philbin drove GM candidates away. You'd be able to fire him in a season or two if things didn't improve, and if they did improve you could live with the guy as coach.

Biggest thing I would have done differently is keep Patterson at CB, maybe get him to take a pay cut. We might have even been able to sign Finnegan after doing so.

I like what the team did with the offensive line. That had to be improved in a big way for Miami to take that next step.

That said, I probably would have drafted differently something like this:

1. Cooks wr --- I love the Landry pick, but in the right system Cooks can be an elite guy in the slot
2. Hyde RB --- When was the last time Miami had a power back? I'll take one trade down to 57 and get him there!
3. Turner OT/OG -- Loved this pick. In my scenario he might have to play RT.
4. Yankey OG --- Surprised he fell so far.
5. Tripp LB --- Loved this pick as well. Could challenge partly because the current LB's aren't very good.
6. Jones LB -- I know he went undrafted, but I really liked this Florida State standout.
7. Richardson OT -- I thought he was a 2nd/3rd round value. Anyone know why he dropped?

Also, I'd sign Jonathan Vilma.

LT - Albert>Martin/McKinnie
LG - Turner/Garner/Brenner = or > Garner/Brenner
RG - Smith/Thomas = or > Jerry (Jerry was very bad last year)
RT- James > Clabo (Clabo improved down the stretch but was a turnstile for much of the season, he is still available to us if we wanted him back)
WR - Landry will improve our WR core, he is a better WR than everyone of our WRs except Wallce and Hartline right out of the gate. If nothing else, hopefully his toughness will rub off on the group.
RB - Moreno > MIller ( and MIller is back in case he improves)

S - Delmas > Clemons (Delmas is much better in run support and better in coverage as well)

That alone is improvement at 6 positions on offense and 1 on defense. A competent set of OTs would have won at least 2 more games for us last year.

I would have liked to see them sign a definite starting caliber OG in free agency and Jackson at LB. If Smith works out we have the Guard I am referring to, we'll see about the LBs. I think they did an adequate job of improving everywhere else. If Tannehill has a good year, with improved passing statistics over last year, we will make the playoffs.

A few little differences.

I would have signed a FA RT in FA. I would not have signed Finnegan. I would have draft a CB in the first round BPA possibly with a trade down. I would have tried to draft a MLB sooner.

The rest I like what Hickey did.

Where?? At what position?? I mean if you break it down position by position across the OL you can say we got better at LT, but as a whole I really don't see a better OL. At Rb, yeah I can see that, but where else?? Trading Paul for Mitchell was a downgrade, trading Patterson and Nolan for a washed up injured Finnigan was a down grade, Delmus for Clemons was at best a wash, and I really can't see a late rd pick doing much to upgrade our LBs.

The two bottom teams definitely got better in the East, I really don't see the top two teams having gotten better.

I thought the Dolphins finished 3rd of 4. Are you saying the Pats and Jets didn't get any better?
