How would you man the RT spot?

I cannot see reaching for a RT when chances are a vet will be better this year, and we see guys we passed on making impacts and possibly Pro Bowls.

What vet is that? Garner, Arkin, Ala, Brenner, or Thomas at OG or RT? That's the problem we have isn't it? Looks like we're damned if we do, and damned if we don't. Where we are with our roster and where we pick in the draft everybody has question marks.

Earlier in this thread you could have called me PANCAKE, but today just call me waffle because I am going to go with OT at 19 instead of BPA.

As painful as it is, I have decided to take Mayock and Pollian's advice and go OL with our 1st pick. Protecting Tannehill and having a decent run game are just too important. We saw last year how the lack of protection and the limited run game negatively impacted the productivity of our offense. So much so that I am willing to take a step back, regroup, and try and build a quality OL. As sad as it is that we have to do that, I feel it must be done if we are ever going to become the powerhouse we all want to be.

With that said, my pick at 19 is a reach because the guy I want probably is not going to be there when we pick in the 2nd. I also don't want to take a chance, trade back, and hope he is there in the late 1st. I assume that the top 4 OT's will be gone and we have to select from Kouandijo, Moses, Bitonio, James, and the like. I have concerns about Kouandijo's knee and Moses's work ethic, so I am going with Bitonio even though both Kouandijo and Moses are superior in size and length.

A few weeks ago I did a OT chart evaluating the top OT's using a variety of metrics such as Kerwin's Explosion Index, etc. based on those metrics and what folks have been saying about Bitonio's film, I believe he is the best candidate for our ZBS. I understand that he needs to get stronger, but his agility and speed scores are higher than Martin's (not to mention his arm length is 1" longer). In fact, if I increase his bench press from 22 reps to 28 he is the only OT to score at the desired level in all four categories. For convenience, the chart is below. Martin's 40 yard dash was taken from draft scout and is his lowest 40 listed. I also made assumptions on Bitonio's bench press after he gets into a NFL workout regimen and increased it from 22 to 28, as I said earlier.

Note: If I use draft scout's mid score of 5.22 for Martin's 40 time he drops to having only 1 metric at or above the desired level. If I leave Bitonio's bench at 22 he just loses the target at Kirwin's Explosion Index, but stays at or above in the other 3. Also, I realize that metrics are not the end all be all when it comes to player evaluation and what is on tape should carry more weight. If Martin is there at 19, then I suppose we should take him instead of Bitonio, but if not I think Botonio is the safer pick of what is left consider the injury concerns of Kouandijo and the work ethic concerns of Moses.

Glad you agree mate

My options would be as follows:

A. Trade up with Dallas for Martin or Lewan if available

B. Trade Down for Koundijo, Moses,or James (assumes Lewan or Martin does not fall to 19)

C. Take best player available and Double up on the tackle spot in the second and 5th

I'm hoping for a vet to be available after the draft, with Clabo as a worst case deal. It's not what I wanted or expected but, hopefully does work out. The coaches (Benton) can meet with players and work them out in the next four days. I guess we will see what Benton thinks of Dallas, Brenner, and Fox.

I'd still get Su'a-Filo in the 1st round as OG and be reliant on say a 3rd rounder for RT to compete with Fox and Thomas.

I know we all hate that we are in this position. I have heard that we are scouring the country for O-linemen. My hope is that we are super aggressive with signing OL in rounds 6, 7, and undrafted FA. You never know if you are going to find a hidden gem or two.

We all have our opinions on what Hickey did in FA with the OL. Mine is that he could have signed another starter, and that Shelly would have been a good third signing. IF Hickey did not agree, he would not have been begging (as some have said) Strief to come in for a visit at the end of FA.

An extra million or so would have made things much better in adding another starter. He messed up. JMO

As of today, I am giving Hickey the benefit of the doubt; however, I have my pitchfork ready just in case. :-)

We shall see, for better or worse.

Well i would draft Moses a little lower so trade down and draft moses. It's been mentioned by ck the best rookie tackle is always the strongest one. Moses is just that very strong

I would man it very poorly. At 5"10, 190 pounds, I don't really have the size necessary for the position. I also lack any upper body strength whatsoever so I would get easily overrun by some of the more talented defensive ends, and most of the less talented ones as well. Also, at 29 I don't really have a lot of upside left. I think the Dolphins would be better served looking elsewhere, though if the Dolphins need someone to catch a wide open crossing route versus the Jets, I may have a bit more success.

Post of the year material right there!
Although if we flop this season, the award will go to "Hickey Gets It."
