that was weird it was a piece of Ivan wasn't it?

yup Ivan went up into Georgia and SC, and then turned around and came back to the panhandle again.

Ivan did it last year. Hung a U turn and came back down to Florida.
yes, and out of 10 times how often will that happen? That was an anomoly

chuckcole. I went through Hurricane Floyd when living in Daytona. They got a we got a good brunt of it and that one continued up the coast. I don't recall the name but I believe you are referring to the one that came up the coastline, then did a pirouette and went into North Carolina.

Yep. That's the one I was referring to (although it hit close to the NC/VA border as opposed to lower NC like so many others did). They all start to run together since we seemed to have had so many the last 4-5 years.

Using your link for Ivan, I found that it was Hurricane Dennis in 1999. It actually hit a little further south than I remember. But at any rate, it's path was really strange.

You'll probably be fine in Miami. I think your flight path should have more concerned since you'll be pretty much flying along the coast (unless you have a layover where you have to change planes in Chicago or Detriot, etc). I know flying out of Albany (a fairly straight line north to Montreal), we flew over NJ and then pretty much straight down the coast until we hit Georgia then we veered towards Orlando (our destination). Since the Hurricane is going North off of the coast, you might fly into some rain and turbulence but enjoy Dolphins Stadium and make enough noise to compensate for the "locals" that can't make it out to see their Fins!!

hey i'm from montreal and am flying down as well on saturday my flights at 12:50pm maybe were on the same flight wouldn't mind having a finsfan to talk to since they don't play movies on the flights no more

In 28 years I have never seen a hurricane go from north to south. Ocean current, prevailing winds, jet stream, et al. sort of make it impossible. Change track east or west? Yes. But to be in north FL/NC/GA/etc. and head in a southward motion near land....not likely.

Check Hurricane Jeanne from just last year which did a complete circle. There are others which have circled around as well in history.

Did you bother to read the thread at all?? I already said of Jeanne, and I already provided evidence it didnt' circle as much as expected and wasnt even close to the continent when it occured.

This shows the storm heading North.
You NEVER know with Hurricanes and Ophelia could do a U turn tomorrow heading straight for us. However, the odds are highly against it and I think you'll be just fine. Not to mention that the storm isn't a very strong one either. Personally, I would'nt cancel the trip.
LOL, they predict it does a U-Turn.... how do they predict that?? a big fat U-Turn. why dont they just say they have no real idea where its gunna go?

all out technology, and knowledge, and they give us that. :goof:
