Five questions about the Larry Johnson signing:

1. If not him, why not Ricky Williams? They're similar, power runners with some years on them. The difference is Ricky produced the last couple of years for the Dolphins. Johnson had five carries for two yards last year in Washington. He's been dumped by three teams in the last two years. He's 31. This can't be about money. Ricky signed a two-year, $2.5 million contract with the Ravens. That's not a deal-breaker.

2. If Johnson, why not Plaxico Burress? Johnson hasn't done anything of note since 2008 in Kansas City. And, like Burress, Johnson has legal issues, behavior issues and generally has been a very bad guy through his career. He had four domestic violence issues in Kansas City, had spats with coach Dick Vermiel and called reporters gay slurs on his way out of town. Sounds like a good character guy to round out a roster, right?

3. Are they happy with Daniel Thomas? The working idea is Johnson is an insurance policy for injury. But do you bring with his career baggage into the locker room and on the team if he doesn't have a good role? Thomas was a second-round pick and running backs taken that high either play immediately or aren't what the team expected. This will be curious how it plays out.

I just read the article.

This is a horrible signing.. even as a 3rd stringer. I'd rather have signed a UFA rookie who can develop.

Bigger Question...
Why is it when the Dolphins sign a non-productive guy with character issues its the worst move in the history of the game, and when the Pats or Jets do it its a move with enormous potential upside?

Thought the article was very nit-picky. Either way he's better than Sheets, and we still have young guys in Grigsby and Thomas we can groom. Also:

Kory Sheets become the latest to go and be replaced by a stopgap guy. Marc Colombo signing to start at tackle is a more promeinat issue

:err:

Horriable signing, and this means that the FO wiffed again with a 2nd RD pick.

They released Sheets not DT. Get a grip. This guy is not here to compete with DT or Bush he is competing for the last RB spot. Don't let your negativity cloud your judgement and act like a cluless media person trying to grap headlines. Its pure media speculation (poor speculation) that insinuates this move has anything to do with DT.

Marion Barber, Mcgahee, ronnie, ricky, ben jarvis, brandon jackson, le'ron mcclain, jason snelling were all out there to be had and could of filled the void of a goal line veteran back, this signing does not make any sense to me at all. why would we risk bringing in a guy who could be a cancer to the lockeroom, it just does not make sense to me.

^^^This. But apparently he was brought in to be a mentor. (Because of his great character and past)

It was time to move on from Ronnie and Ricky..... Larry Johnson is not a starter in this league.. He's here for a reason..Heck he could even be here for only a few days...
