Hyde5: Why Louis Delmas is a Dolphins gamble

I'm pretty sure the Delmas signing means we are drafting a FS this year. If his knee issues are degenerative this isn't a "show me" contract. It's a "get us through this season while a rookie learns the ropes behind you" contract. My guess as to why we didn't re0sign Clemons is instead of taking the risk with Delmas is that Clemons wants a multi-year deal and we didn't want to give it to him.

miami would be smart to have a plan b here but i just wonder if coyle thinks he's too smart for that and can make chicken salad out of chicken **** if need be...would be a mistake imo...and i also doubt any top 3 round pick would go to a safety despite some good talents...

i guess we will see...but that medical stuff with delmas it freaking matters...
he has done it before, in Cincinnati he actually made Gibril Wilson and Chris Crocker look decent

More negative reporter bull****!!! Jesus, the guy played the whole season. This guy and others like him, just enjoy to bag on the Fins for everything they do. Then people wonder why we have fans that love to complain, because they read and believe what these reporters have to say. I am very happy with this signing.

I don't think its complaining it stating the obvious, we picked up a guy who had surgery on both knees who couldn't complete a week of practice during the season in order to save his knees for the game.....what I get from it is don't expect this guy to play much and if he does its a bonus.....

Delmas does fit three of the four criteria for which you go shopping. He's a productive player last year for Detroit (68 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, eight passes defensed). He's a good buy with the one-year, $3.5 million contract. He's a positive presence, at least according to Detroit (come on, like we know?)

So what's the issue then?

I think Delmas is plan b he is here to compete and see if he can get his knees healthy and play if plan A gets hurt.........can't wait to see plan A because this aint it.....

Health is the issue. I heard today on Sirius radio a pretty good term. Sometimes your best ability is availability.

While the guys we're looking at are good fits (most anyway) I'm not real happy with the injury history of all the guys we're pursuing. I thought we signed/drafted too many injured players last year and it hurt us. So far everyone we're rumored to be interested in is either coming off injury or had a long history of injury. That's not good.

I know health is the issue but it's the issue for any player. Drew Brees isn't a Dolphin b/c they worried his injury would derail his career. Take a chance and make it happen. Delmas signed for 1 year with a low cap hit. Get depth in the secondary and even if he does get injured it shouldn't be the end of days.

Fans complain because the organization gives them a reason to every year.

Health is an issue for everyone. Unless you are spending big money, you have to take a chance. Look what happened when we took a chance on Grimes. They only signed Delmas to a 1 year $3.5 mill deal. If he doesn't pan out, there's no loss. I think they will draft a safety in the 4th or 5th round.

pretty much what you should get...except you paid it starter money for one year...average starter money i'd say but that rate was of course due to health concerns...it's a risk no way around it...unless they have a back up plan...this comes down to more than money..sure money wise while not great given the medical risk it's no big deal but if the guy only plays 8 games as your starter or cant practice or both yeah that matters...especially when you knew going in the risk you were assuming here...it's not like this is some new unforseen thing that may happen...

just hoping that plan b has yet to fall...kinda wished they had though just skipped this plan and went straight to the other one and saved the up to $3.5 mil in the process

I don't expect a different response from you shoops.

All the Delmas signing really is, is swapping one injury prone Db that cost $5.5M for another that cost $3.5M. And that's it.
