Hypothetical Question - Dolphins Move To L.A.

The Rams played second fiddle to the Raiders, that's why they left...the Raiders left because Al Davis is a mad man...the WERE LA in the late 80s early 90s ...that city loved them......and I don't know if you know this, but the USFL sucked...

the usfl was awesome not sure if u ever watched any games. both teams left because stadium was crap

i'd stick with the Dolphins in Miami. Too much invested in the team to try and pretend to like a new team.

hey, i am TOTALLY all for it, as long as they KEEP THE NAME AND THE LOGO AND UNIS.

nothing about miami area fans has impressed me in a long, long time. lots of talk about the home town fans and how "real deal" they are, but they dont go to the games. detroit, the packers, atlanta, etc..... all BIG TIME LOSERS for years and years [pack before brett] and they sold out year after year after year. same with the bills before there 90's SB teams, the jets have sold out for 50 years.

so, if there is a REAL promise to keep the name and logo and to make it a sales stipulation for all the future owners, i am fine and actually would welcome it! closer to me and i can go a few times a year!!!

Naw I root for Miami. I'd pick a new team to follow. Probably Carolina. Or maybe whoever they replace us in the AFC East so I can still hate the Jets and Patriots just as much.

KUD:

SO your a MIAMI FLORIDA fan, not a DOLPHINS fan, right?

First i would like to say thank you to the op for coming up with a great topic....j hadnt even thought of this....i live in ny and i can honestly say i dont know what i would do...id probably root for them wherever they went and thinking about it now i can definitely see Ross doing this...hes a flashy owner who isn afraid to spend his money for it... and someone said something about then having to realign if they move to the west coast, i dont think tht would happen because look at the nfc east, the cowboys on the west coast but stay in that division because of the rivaly...so i think they would stay in the east

As long as they kept the Dolphins name and uniforms...which I think would fit LA, I would surely root for them....It would be nice to see my favorite team play in front of REAL fans, who actually GO to the games, and CHEER for their team....

So the city that has lost 3 NFL teams is your desired destination for the Dolphins? These "real" fans that you speak of you think would support this disaster of a team? Too funny man. Lol, send the LA fans our incompetence in Ireland, Sparano, Henne, Ross, the whole bunch, and not to mention the whole decade of losing and I can bet you that this Dolphin franchise would be packing it's bags at the drop of a hat.

.....I can give a flying **** what some armchair "fans," who live hundreds if not thousands of miles away and need a GPS to locate Dolphin Mall or SunLife Stadium, may think about our local fandom and whether the people actually associated with this area "deserve" THEIR team! As far as delusionally believing the knock off jersey or 2 they occasionally buy from China coupled with a rare nearby away game they may attend and the Sunday ticket they purchase matter enough to influence the club or i's bottom line or to have a say in where it's located, well here's a clue: it's barely relevant!

Nope, Miami fan, PERIOD........not an LA fan at all, but i cant see that happening......south beach is a huge market for Ross, they arent going anywhere!

This doesn't seem like a tough question to me. What the OP is describing is equivalent to the NFL establishing a new franchise-- say the Sharks-- in L.A. and then having the Dolphins trade all of their personnel and coaches to the Sharks while the franchise goes on hiatus for an indefinite period of time. Since I'm a fan of the team itself, and not the current players (whoever they may be), I'd just wait until the Dolphins franchise is active again while rooting for another team in the meanwhile.

Now having the Dolphins literally moved to another city while Miami lost the name, the colors, the logo, and all of the history, records, and tradition-- that would be quite different, akin to what happened to the old Baltimore Colts. Since I don't live in Miami, it wouldn't be as big a deal for me. However, if I were a Dolphins fan who lived (and planned to continue living) in Miami, I'd pretty much stop following the team.

The Dolphins aren't going anywhere, but if they ever did move to LA all I can say is that I would be able to attend more Dolphins games. That's for sure.

That's what the topic was meant to do. Get our minds of the Monday night defensive debacle and talk about a "what if' for a minute. Do I think it will ever happen when I am alive - No. But it is a fun topic to discuss none the less. It was good reading the responses by everyone, it's funny actually the board is split about 50/50 based on all the posts.

It's truly absurd that in our Monday Night opener half the stadium was empty, and there were probably just as many Pats fans as Dolphins fans....

Random arguement #1 "Well if they WON we'd come out!"

First off, I call Shenanigans, because even when the Dolphins were winning in the 90s I saw a lot of Orange seats in the stands....Second off, Denver, a team FAAARR worse off then us, with FAAARR less expectations packed their house on the same night....

the fans in Miami are pitiful, and it would serve you all right if they moved the team to LA. I for one would continue to be a fan if they retained the name and logo....

PS No offense to you real fans from Miami that actually do go out and support, the Big Poppa Pumps of the world etc...it would really be too bad for you guys; and I'd hate to see it happen, but the majority of fans from your area are terrible

It's not just in Football either; in the NBA FINALS, you had a team in the FINALS, with 3 of the BIGGEST SUPERSTARS in the world on your team; and fans from DALLAS came in that building and OWNED YOU GUYS!!??? how does that happen in the FINALS!!!???

Guess your too busy snorting raw coke off strippers ***** on South Beach to be concerned with sporting events...and if that's the case, I guess I can't blame you...but don't be mad when you don't have any more teams

Because LA has such great fans you'll be able to watch with "real" fans"? I see, it's worked out well for them so far, although I wouldn't be suprised if there are quite a bit of Miami fans out in Cali. I do remember when we played San Diego and half the stadium was Dolphin fans, even the announcers mentioned it. Actually..it's kind of funny..announcers have mentioned a few times now that Miami fans "travel well" so this does I guess sort of "prove" in a lot of ways there are a TON of GLOBAL Miami fans..cause Florida sucks and they move.
