I am more surprised at Miami's ability to get a draft pick

the pick makes up for manny wright. So we wont miss a pick next year

Is it a fifth? That would be downright shocking if it was. I imagine it is a conditional pick wherein that Owens has to make the team for us to nab a seventh rounder or something along those lines. I don't see anything above a sixth.

I have never heard of a trade like that. If the player we trade you makes the team we will give you a pick.

I'm sorry, but Donald Lee has undeniable talent.

The problem is that he makes huge mistakes and that is just not something that can be tolerated. I get the impression that Saban would rather have a guy with less talent that he knows he can count to do his job every time he is asked over a player who may have more upside but can't be trusted to not make a huge mistake at a critical time.

Lee probably goes, Owens is a block only TE and I think he has value for that purpose alone. In the Tampa Bay game we saw the value of TE's bllocking well as several of our big plays came because of the TE handling his man.

I also would like to know what pick it is. I assume it is probably a 7th rounder, but I would love to get an extra 6th rounder.

Jason Cole is working on checking it out.

Ayanbadejo was a probowl alternate special teams guy. I'm assuming right now it's a 7th if they don't keep him and a 6th if they do.

This is probably close to being right, usually when you are making these kind of deals the conditions are that the player makes the team. If Ayanbadejo makes the team we get the pick if not we might just get Owens.

i remember lee's rookie year was really promising. it seemed like we hit on a TE 2 years in a row. he looked promising as a recieving TE. he has the ability its just i cant be found right now. it almost seems like a confidence thing. i would like to see him just make that one great play and maybe he will get his confidence back. he needs to find a little swagger.

Cool. Let us know when he finds out. :)

... for Ayanbadejo, plus a player. That is almost as surprising as Perry getting cut. I continue to be humbled every year by surprise cuts that surprise all of us on the board. I guess I have a lot to learn about what constitutes business decisions in the NFL. But one thing I do know is it is all about the green.

I guess Saban has confidece in the depth at that position, for two reason it seems the loss of talent doesn't seem to bother Saban and two we didn't replace him with a D player. Good trade IMO, I think when the trade happend it pretty much inluded Manny Wright. I think Saban wants to run the ball!! Thats why Perry was released and we brought in a blocking TE!!!

This thread has included more positive references to Donald Lee than all threads combined since I joined in February. I'm rooting for him and will be interested to check out John Owens tomorrow. I'll be semi-shocked if he's 60% as talented a blocker as Donald Lee. Diamond has been getting plenty of snaps with the first unit. I'm guessing he plays sparingly tomorrow and we see plenty of Lee and Owens, since they figure to be among the major decisions of the final cutdown.
