I am Still Pissed about Vontae Davis

The Davis trade was dumb, no two ways about it. Even if you argue he was just average we were still getting great value for an average player. But he is much better than average and PFF has him ranked right next to Grimes, both as top 5 corners. The only way I can justify it in my mind is Davis must have done something much worse behind the scenes that was never disclosed than just showing up to camp overweight. Either that or Ireland called the Colts asking about us trading a pick for one of their players and it totally got turned around on him and he got schooled by their GM.

Vontae did it for one season....Grimes has been excellent for most of his career.... consistency...

I will be shocked if Davis is still ranked in the top 10....

Vontae had great potential. And he was STILL better then what we had other than Grimes. We let him go for nothing. Would I have paid what the Colts paid...nope. But he was worth keeping. I think someone like Grimes would have made him better. But the point of this post is how Ireland and this regime has let players leave without having quality replacements. In essence downgrading the position. The drop off from Davis to our other DBs hurt. The drop off from Bush to our RBs hurt. The drop off from Long to Martin really hurt. I know it is the past, but I feel like bitching about it any way. Hell it is the offseason...its what we do!

I read it somewhere in this thread, I can't find it. Whoever thinks using interceptions as a way to grade CBs, please don't.

Just about every FA ranking I see has him ranked pretty high. He was a good corner for us. And for some inexplicable reason we traded him away. A Grimes/Davis tandem would have been pretty sweet. I guess I can add him to the list along with Jake Long and Reggie Bush of players that the retard let getaway.

CURSE YOU JEFF IRELAND!!!!

I agree with you, we let our good one's go and then over pay in FA.....think of all the talent on defense we let out the door in positions that are now a weakness for us....

I agree with that as well and i'd add B. Marshall to that list . After we traded him Naanana was our starter or what ever his name was.
f**k Ireland

I miss having Vontae around.

Can I call my grandma?

Happy that IReland is gone though!

I do not mind cutting players or trading them IF you have a plan. Marshall was a good example as well as the others I named. Ireland moved players and then did nothing and had nothing to replace them with. Players who did well before us...and are doing well after us. Was it the players?

Totally agree with the Brandon Marshall situation. I still see Vontae as a soft player mentally...not a winner. Long actually chose the Rams over the Dolphins...that wasn't a money decision. I think the Long thing had more to do what transpired with the leadership council and Philbin.

But Marshall for two 3rd round picks was a joke.

That's on Ireland so I think we are all glad he is out of here.

Vontae Davis for $10 million a year or Sean Smith for $6 million a year? Based on their play in Miami I would think Smith is the better deal. I just think for $10 million a year there are a number of cornerbacks that you could sign for that money. And if you remember what Ireland said was it wasn't personal against Vontae he just felt that Miami wasn't going to resign him when he hit free agency and trading him for a second round pick while we could was good value.

I have no problem with what we got for Vontae...my bigger concern is what we did with that 2nd round pick?

If DJ ends up being a bust we wasted a 1st rounder and the 2nd rounder (from Vontae deal).

I'm intrigued by Jordan, but this team needed O-line help last year more.

We should have gotten Albert last year with that pick, could have moved down a bit in round 1 and gotten Justin Pugh or Kyle Long and picked up and extra 3rd rounder. Then drafted Larry Warford in round 2.

If the O-line had been prioritized properly last year by Ireland...we could have had a Line of Pro Bowler Branden Albert, Larry Warford, Mike Pouncey, with Justin Pugh on the right side by seasons end.....doubt we would have seen 58 sacks and would bet we would have seen the playoffs.

And Ireland would still be here

Or that Dolphins actually got good value on Davis via a trade. You see pro bowl guys go for 4-6th round picks and Dolphins got a 2nd.

As for Dansby go look around the league what happens to VETS. 3 of the top 4 active sack leaders were released this week. It is the NFL.

Doesn't matter if you got 10 First round picks in return for Vonte......

It only matters how the player pans out after being drafter.

With our recent draft history, sadly I can't be so sure that we got good value.
