DieHard FinFan 4 Life
After watching the first episode Hard Knocks, some light was shed on the Vontae Davis situation. From what I take from it, they see a player with all the tools and a high ceiling who is not pushing himself. I remember and incident last year, Vontae was called out by a teammate (I think it was Brandon Marshall) because he showed up at practice hung over. I believe Vontae has been going through his football career on his talent with no one around to push him towards acheiving more. This new staff is putting across a clear message to him; "you are good, but you can be much better." I hope his status as #2 on the depth chart proves to be a humbling experience for him and they keep him there until he starts to work harder. This is probably the first time in his life he was listed as a non-starter in anything, and I hope that's all it will take to motivate him to want to be better. It seems that Sean Smith and Richard Marshall understands this, and they are being rewarded for their hard work, now it's time for the light to come on for Vontae. Once he gets it, watch it, he will be that All-Pro CB (or damn close to it) most of us envisioned for him. How Vontae responds to a staff that wants more out of him is one storyline I think is worth watching.
I applaud this staff for not allowing Vontae to continue his complacent ways like other staffs in the past, and continue to push him to become the best he can possibly be.
