Coming from someone who played qb at the collegiate level I just don't get it. The balls he is missing on are ones that should be a relativley easy throw. I think this really highlights how little he is just missing "it"
The throw is one that just comes along with a decade of growing up playing football and hone the ability to judge someones speed and distsnce and throw a cstchable pass on target.
Its so strange watching him throw deep balls with such Completely different flight patterns.

His deep ball was a hugeee concern of mine wheni was evaluating the qbs in the2012 draft class.
In college he hardly ever through and deep balls and when he did they were usually off target.
After2 whole seasons on thr dolphins I have yet to see him even attempt a deep skinny post(and he's had numerous chances to throw it).

The fact that he can not accurately throw a deep ball is plain scary. I like tannehill personally but thereare three things that bug me beyond belief

1. His garbage deep ball
2. His lack of pocket awareness and inability to manipulate a pocket.
3. The fact that he hasn't had to learn an effective offensive playbook and has been In the same garbage systemfor 5 years now(I'm aware this is not his fault)

Sorry for this having so many grammatical errors i typed this on a kindle fire, Its a. Miracle I didn't throw it off the wall before finishing.

He seems to throw a better deep ball to Hartline and Clay than to Wallace. I've seen him throw nice deep passes to the other guys. So the big confusion for me is why he can't hit Wallace deep. It's either underthrown or overthrown. I know Wallace is fast, but seriously.

maybe because tannehill isnt that good? what do you think?

I 100% agree with this post by the OP wallace17. Every word. wallace17 just exactly describes how I feel about Ryan Tannehill

Matt Moore has a better range of throws. That was amply demonstrated by Moore's 50 yard completion to Hartline against Buffalo from under the shadow of his posts. Same last year when Moore came on against the Jets for an injured Tannehill. I'm not saying that Moore is perfect but he has a much better deep ball than Tannehill.

Another thing - Tannehill's lack of confidence on the deep ball - it unbalances the Offence. Too many checkdowns to runs and short passes.

He threw a nice deep ball to alligator arms Wallace in the end zone today.

I agree with the OP completely on all three points. I just think Tanny needs fliers on the practice squad who can run deep balls all day in practice. Surely Wallace won't be doing 30 reps of go routes every day. Which is why I have repeatedly called for a flier or two on practice squad who can simulate go routes for Tanny to get it right. Tanny has not played enough QB to have the reps even the OP likely got in throwing deep balls.

Tannehill is this regimes top investment and the sole measuring stick as to success or failure. Why would they not do everything necessary as I suggest?

That should have been a penalty on the Jet defender. He armbarred Wallace

Keep making excuses for him. He lacks any type of ability to go up and fight. Wallace is a sham.

Tannehill totally flung open Pandora's box of doubt about him the last 2 weeks after seeming to nail it shut vs NE.
I was really in his corner and now I feel like we need to bring in valid competition. He needs to earn it next August. He flat-out stunk this week, and his confidence visibly plummeted.

Look around the league and the completion % on these throws are very low.

Nah. Youre confusing deep throws with deep throws to guys who are WIDE OPEN, streaking down the field, several yards past the defender.

Those type of passes are completed fairly regularly by competent NFL QBs. Tannebust misses almost all of them.

What he said!

Seems to me it comes down to two things. One, he hasn't been a starting quarterback his entire career. So not a whole lot of experience with throwing a deep ball. Secondly, **** o-line. Combine those two, still is better than any quarterback we have had under center in the past five years.

Henne has the same problem too.

Not everyone can hit the deep go route in stride.
