Which is why I would start McCain. He can at least rush the passer. Instead of putting him in coverage just let him become an extra rusher on most downs, and give him help on the other plays. He has the length to be a player that could help with a double team vs Gronk. He couldn't do it by himself but since we will be trying to double Gronk most of the time, let him either be part of a double team or rush the passer.
 
They need to let McCain get a shot, you never know and he really can't do a lot worse than Wheeler trying to cover. It would probably work better to put a coverage scheme in place that gets Gronk covered by a DB rather than our lousy coverage LBs. At least a DB could run with Gronk and have a shot at a ball that's up for grabs.

Because we have seen them with the starters, and you can see a clear difference as far as tackling ability and instinct. Yes, the backup will have so issues with coverage, but so does Wheeler. And there will be some after this game with the argument, "see that is why they are backups"...but they forget exactly what is being replaced. The difference is, the bakup may get better with playing time...Wheeler will never get better...he will always suck.
 
The big question to me is could we stop the run in nickel, the answer is probably no. I think our D is going to have issues, no surprise with Brady about but clearly the solution is get pressure on him.
