I dont get it...help me understand...

This right here is what people just do not seem to get. How can you judge how good we are when we arent even planning for the game? Idiots i tell you! Idiots!

and the other team isn't game planning either!!

It's actually a very good indicator of how good the players are....just strap 'em up and play. Any variance that occurs due to game planning speaks to the strengths/weaknesses of the coaching staff, and not as much as to the talent on the field.

So, yes as team, we may be better than we've looked in the preseason, but that will speak more to Saban's talent as a coach and less to the player's ability. Reggie Howard is still toast when left in man-to-man....the only difference is will Saban be able to limit his exposure to it.

0 and 3 in the preseason means absolutely nothing. afterall, Indy and Manning are 0 and 3 as well. do you think they are worried in Indy about that fact? of course not. so why should we be.

what does matter is how the 1st stringers have looked. The starting "D" has been great. Chi scored a TD, but that was against a combo of 1st and 2nd stringers. Jax and Pitt starting "O's" have been held scoreless. Can not complain there.

Our first string "O" has not done much of anything, but right now, Houck is trying to find the right lineup. Saban is trying to find the right combo of receivers. We are still figuring out who can do what and who can't.

The next 2 games, with some game-planning, should show a lot more promise. But right now, I still think Saban is holding back a lot of the schemes that will actually be used in the regular season, and I for one, like that thought. keep'em all guessing.

Saban aint lookin for a win, hes jus trying to evaluate the players and see which ones will do best during the season

Can someone explain to me why we have all these real good players and STILL arent winning???
I think it's because it's preason which is basically a way of assessing players. I doubt Saban is trying to win preseason games. Rememeber, he inherited the team and it's players. He got players via the FA based on who was available out there and what the team could afford. As the years go by he will start getting rid of players who don't fit his system and will plug in those who will both via the FA and the draft.

This is what a team normally goes through when they are rebuilding.

FYI Indianapolis is 0-3.....anyone think they will finish at the bottom of their division?
I was going to respond using the same example. While the Colts starters are among the best in the league they have no depth. Nonetheless, they're expected to be just as good as last year at least.
If, on opening day, we look lost, confused, outclassed and/or unable to compete, then I'll worry. we can go 0-5 through the pre-season for all I care as long as we play like we belong when it counts.

Donnie Spragan is sooo tall, i noticed the other day. And about our fullbacks, it seems like its a competition...do u think Heath Evans or Jamar Martin will win the fullback spot? It seems like Martin can block better, but Heath is an overall better fullback.
Heath Evans

Every couple of days a few friends and myself have a football talk about teams, and who is good and who isnt. So far the Arizona Cardinals have impressed me, the Kansas City Chiefs (i thought) would be a great team this year, but seem to suck so far. Now onto my team, the Miami Dolphins...in the off-season, we acquired/signed so many really good players: (kevin carter, vonnie holliday, keith traylor, donnie spragan, lance schulters, frank middleton, ronnie brown, heath evans, stockar mcdougle, tebucky jones)...yet we arent winning. Can someone explain to me why we have all these real good players and STILL arent winning??? is it our coaching?? Is our defense looking better? I wouldve expected the right side of our O-line to look good with Middleton and McDougle. I wouldve expected our defensive line and linebacker unit to be rock solid with all the players we have.....but still nothing? Whats going on?? No matter how many threads i read, i just cant seem to understand why we are not winning? Or maybe if we stick our starters in for the whole game, we'll actually win...?

If starter played the whole game we probaly win 2 of 3.......or Second and third string DB's are very very bad. We do fine holding our own until we put in the second string D and then back up QB;s light us up. We held leftwhich in check with no points and held Ben and the Pittt Offense to no points. We can beat alot of theese teams. Just wait till the starters play 4 quarters.

I mean let's be honest about the FAs the Dolphins signed:
- Middleton - still not healthy, was injured last year and has no agility
- McDougle - there is a reason you release a former 1st round pick
- T. Jones - there is a reason why you release a player one year after you traded draft picks for him
- Tillmann - unproven, potential but either injured or lost
- Spragen - seems to be great, but it wasn't that team went into a bidding war over him
- Holiday - was awful last year in KC, need to pick up his career
- Schulters - injury problems, slow, but great signing though
- Carter - great addition, but he does not play offense
- Evans, assume he's good, but how often does a FB change a game?
- Frerotte - nice backup or great starter if the rest of the team has SB caliber
- Ricky - we will see
- Edwards - glad if he makes it as a dime CB, so good is he

Over all, despite some few picks as carter, the majority of the players have to prove something which is why they come affordable. If Saban had a differtn choice I think half of the above he would not have signed

i saw Damion Cook playing a lot...do u think he will become a starter??? When i watched the Bears and Jacksonville game, i think he was playing with 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd string teams...maybe that might mean that hes progressing very well??

I just hope we sign Tim Couch...he could be our answer to our QB controversy. Sign Couch, release AJ because he sux...keep Gus for backup purposes, release Sage because hes not starting material, and keep Berlin for future purposes....he has potential.

This is simple...... It's preseason, there is a new coach, a new system and no set QB.

Preseason W/L means nothing.
The undefeated Dolphins were winless in the preseason if I remember correctly.

What is a little troubling has been the level of play from some of the starters at times. It may just be growing pains and the fact that we aren't game planning at all yet or it may be a sign of trouble.

We'll see.

because no one else is game planning either and we haven't show the ability to execute anything on offense.

BRO, just chill. Look how many players you named. That's ALOT of new people that you gotta try to get to understand this new system and what their roles are. I think somewhere around the middle of the season, they should REALLY start to come on. Everyone should be more comfortable and know what they gotta do at all times. Everyone doesnt catch on and execute perfectly in so little time. It's like everything else. A little time and you will get better. I expect them to start off slow and start kicking some @$$ later in the season. They will hate playing us by then. Next season we have a lot better chance to make some real noise.

With all the changes we had this offseason i think we could be much worse..

the defense looks fine.
the offense has struggled, though notice that we faced a crappy bears defense (1st game in saban's regime, just 1st...1st game with a whole new system! ) than look what defenses we played....Jax,Steelers and now we'll face the bucs..all good defenses.
I think saban choosed face these tough defenses cause that's a way to evaluate the best your players can do and when season starts, and that's when u SHOULD worry about, we'll be prepaired to face anyone

relax

Thats Easy, its preseason.......saban already said he dosent game plan for the preseason, and our team is still learining the new system. Ive thought our Defense has looked great, still shaky stopping the run. I watched Willie Parker?? break off huge gains on us a few times, that shouldnt be happening. Our offense is still fresh in the system, and McMike killed us with the dropped passes and fumble. We will be a pretty good team, dont believe the hype on ESPN or anywhere else. We are a strong team.
