I get Tannehill chocked but why are we not talking about the defense?!?! | Page 4 | FinHeaven - Miami Dolphins Forums

I get Tannehill chocked but why are we not talking about the defense?!?!

The defense was not the problem. We got blown out by the Saints and played piss poor defense against the Steelers. That is 2 out of 16 games. The other 14 games we played average to excellent defense.

When you consider how good we were against the pass, how many turnovers we created, and how few points we gave up, when you consider all that IN SPITE OF HAVING ZERO OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION, you should be ashamed to even mention our defense.

Put differently - if we had even an average offense, our defense would have been top 5 in most major categories. Because our offense was one of the worst in the league, our defense just had to hold the entire team afloat. The league average was 23.41 points a game... we scored less than 20 points a game.

Our offense put up less than 20 points a game. Our offense put up less than 20 points a game. Our offense put up less than 20 points a game. Our offense put up less than 20 points a game. Our offense put up less than 20 points a game. Our offense put up less than 20 points a game. Before the last two games, miami was averaging 20 pts or more. So it's not the fins weren't scoring pts this season. I have no idea why they stopped scoring the last two games. Well the o line was terrible against Buffalo and dropped passes by Hartline didn't help. I don't know why tanny couldn't play this game. And yes the defense has done well with not allowing much pts, though a defense that can get gashed by the run is not good. Plus miami like I said had no pass rush the whole game. You need pressure on a qb, some anyway. Miami didn't get any against geno or rarely even in the beginning of the game

The Pitt game was the first time they scored 30 all year. The D won most of your games sometimes scoring when they needed to. The O and specifically QB play is why you aren't playing this weekend.

Tannehill about to get Sherman fired twice.

20 points doesn't get it done in the NFL anymore!!! The offense only scored over 27 one freaking time!!

I'll say this ONE more time....Yes,the offense was horrible.....NOBODY is saying they were the 84 version of the Dolphins....but..
if anyone thinks this is a playoff caliber defense, they are retarded.
I don't care what our scoring defensive rank is.
Other teams DON"T have to score much to beat us...They can just run the ball down our throats and limit the
opportunities our young, talent strapped offense gets.
How many times did our O score and get a lead, just to watch our D give it back on the next drive?
Stats can lie...it's not just how points you give up,but when you give them up.

probably not that many, how many times did your O fail late in games or the D scored or got a stop?

8 wins:
@ Cle: held cle to 10 pts, created 3 TOs
@ Ind: shut down one of the best late game QBs late in the game. Luck had an enite 4th qtr to "come back" from a 4 pt deficit and your D held him.
vs. Atl: great late game drive by O to win it.
vs. Cincy: D scores TD and then wins game in OT w/ safety
vs. SD: Miami took 4 pt lead w/ over 8 mins left, held lead for 2 possessions to end game
at NYJ: dominated our O as your O failed to capitalize most of game.
at Pit: despite pick 6 from Ryan they held on against Pitt. After you took lead 31-28 they forced 4 and out which essentially ended game.
vs. NE: kept best QB of this generation out of EZ for the win in the closing seconds.

of 8 wins really one was not the direct result from the D's play(Atl). vs. NE was a combo and the rest mostly D.

8 losses:
@ NO: crushed but was close game late in half until your QB melted.
vs. Bal: D scores TD to tie it late, allows FG to give Bal lead on a drive that began at Mia 40. O has 1:42 from their 20 to tiw it and they fail.
vs. Buf: Ryan throws INT for TD, throws another awful INT in Bills EZ, then while protecting lead fumbles to set up GW FG for Buf.
@ NE: team loss, both O and D struggled in 2nd half.
@ TB: O allows safety, TB takes lead early in 4th and O has over 10 mins to tie or win and they fail
vs. car: D allows late TD
@ Buf: you can win many games allowing 19 pts, it is impossible to win scoring ZERO pts.
vs. NYJ: we only scored 20, it's hard to win games scoring 7 pts when your QB turns it over 3 times.

most losses on O, most wins on D. better production from QB and you are playing this week.

Step off....Geno "freaking" Smith ran over our LBS...End of story....Where is my little blue buddy when I need him?

I tend to agree with Junc. I think the defense gives our offense plenty of scoring chances but they blow so many they always need another, the defense fails and that's what everyone remembers not the other many blown shots the offense had. It's not an elite defense but it's good enough to win with if our offense didn't suck so bad. Sure I'd love to have an even better D but until we can rely on our offense to score the league average in points per game what would be the point? If 20 points is the end of the world for your offense in 2013 you have big issues.

So 14 points is too much for the Miami offense to overcome? C'mon now!

And one more freaking thing!Stop throwing logic and stats at me....
I don't care!!!!!! I'm pissed off,irrational.....All want to hear from Ross is "There shall be Blood"
This is a very average /to below average team.

Another BS stat..Ravens game...A real Defense wouldn't have given up that field goal...It can be played both ways.

I am not sure if you are kidding or not now but I will act is if you are serious. bal got the ball at their 40 on that FG drive.

A little bit of both...Look,I just think this is average team...O and D....The O had problems...But with young QB,the offensive line problems (scandal and bad talent) plus injuries..
well, they had some excuses...The D we built doesn't have those excuses.
But..I just feel both are ...well average.

NYC, is amazing how well informed you are on this team. Nice
While I mostly agree on this post, there are some points that are not consider.
Watching our D, I do not see a dominance, The were overpowered on the running game on several games, the line was crushed and LB corps were lost; I see a good coverage despite not having the best corners on the field most of the time, this credit goes to Croyle having the secondary in good shape for games, except for R. Jones who had a step back.
Pass rushing was Ok, while many think that our Dline Great, I see inconsistent playing, I did not see a penetration or disrupting kind of playing on them most of the time, I'd like to see a Lions playing kind of game with Fairley and Suh or as we used to play with Daryl Gardener and Tim Bowens (Dominance, fear). LB's corp played bad against the run, played well against the pass, we need more instincts on this side of the ball as well.
On the O side, we need to fix our Oline as we all know, get our players back including Gibson and another TE(maybe roll the dice with Keller back), I do not see a big problem on the running game, once the Oline is fixed, but a veteran in the mix will be very welcomed. I also like to see a physical Play maker WR to help on different route running and blocking.
That is my humble opinion.

Thank you for the kind words.

I am not saying you were the '85 Bears but you certainly had a D good enough to make the playoffs with. There are obviously still issues on D but overall they were good.
