those people that dont have anything to eat or a place to live didnt train hard basically their whole life to play football. their not in the gym 4 hours a day and away from their family alot. millions of people are entertained by football players, they are getting paid less that what their worth. Owners are making billions off them, why shouldnt they get millions?

why risk the chance of getting 19 million instead of 21 when the next day you could blow out your knee and the team cut you and thats 2 million out of your pocket. im tired of people complaining about athletes making to much money. their more in demand, and make more money for the owners than anyone else, they should be paid what their getting paid.

It doesn't matter how hard you train, getting $20 million guaranteed money before you even prove you can do your job at this level is CRAZY. An Attorney goes to school for 12 years and probably won't make $10 mill in thier lifetime. Doctors...whatever.
Players bring money to the stadium but not BILLIONS. Most of the money that teams have come from advertisement. Alot of teams don't even make a profit at the gate. That's why there is the collective bargaining agreement.

AMEN. Its so easy for you guys to point fingers and say "I would work for that!" But $2,000,000 is $2,000,000. Hows that look with all those zeros? I don't like the fact that we have to pay him so much, like the rest of you. BUT. He was chosen at #2 overall. If we didn't want to pay a RB that kind of money, I guess we should have taken Aaron.

Now... Put yourself at the table. You know you are "worth" (we are talking market value here) a $22M signing bonus. Why take $19M? This is NO different than if you held the reins of your own salary, and they wanted to pay you $75K but you could make $90K elsewhere. Well?

That's the thing though, Brown and his agent are overestimating market value. The market's only willing to pay him 19-20 mil, not 22. Braylon just signed for a little over 18, so 19-20 is appropriate. That would be like you going to the grocery store and arguing over their prices saying that you know what their market value should be and they should give you the product for that value. All that happens is you leave with no groceries and the store doesn't make a sale.

Yes the owner's make their money on advertising. But what they advertise if there were no marque players. Yes, its a lot of money for unproven talent, but that's the leagues fault. I'll bet dollars to donuts Wayne and the "company" make more money yearly on the Fins than all the players' salaries (on the Fins) combined. If they didn't they wouldn't sign such big checks.

There are proven veterans out there that don't get the money these unproven rookies are asking, and that isn't right.

Players really need to open there eyes and stop holding out. There is no need to demand 19 million dollars when 18 million can still be plenty. It annoys me when there are people in this world who cannot eat, or don't have a place to live, and we have athletes who demand 40 million instead of 39.

Sorry, its just my thought for the day

I SOOO agree with you!!!

Wow I never thought of that! I feel terrible for athletes. They have to work hard to play a game they absolutly LOVE and couldnt live without, all the while making millions of dollars to blow on cars with 75 flatscreens and playstations! Anyway you look at it its insane really. You cant argue the fact that they are overpaid.

Football players have relatively short careers. Comparing atheletes to regular workers is ridiculous, they deserve what they get, and if you don't like it, don't watch them, don't buy the jerseys, don't go to the games. NFL contracts aren't guranteed also, and it seems alright in alot of fans minds to just cut a guy when he under-performs there contract, but when they out-perform it, and want a raise it's different? Many atheletes bodies are so broken down by the time there in there 50's that they mine as well get as much money as possible now, because chances are they won't be doing much later in life.

Your employer can cut you without gauranteeing any more money, what's the difference? Even with short careers if they make over 3 mil they've already made more than the average person does in a lifetime.

Of course the owner of the team makes the most money, that's how it's supposed to be. Without good ownership the NFL makes no money and there is no meaningful (or lucrative) stage for the players to showcase their talents.

To us non-potential million airs arguing about 18 or 19 mill sounds petty. If you where being offered 19 mill and your agent is telling you I can get you 22, and you have players like T.O. holding out on already signed contracts, chances are you’d be a hold-out to.

Sorry.....still cant see it. You cant sympathize with them because they give up their body....its their choice and they love it. They wouldnt have it any other way. Back in the day players were not set for life and they still played....with leather or even no helmet. Its just gotten out of hand. I wont lose sleep over it though.

Would you like to make $9/hour or $10/hour? It's a 10% difference too. I wish he would show up and get to work too, but he's not holding out, he's negotiating his initial contract, much like you would at a new job. You ask for what you want or think you can get. Now if he pulled a TO and refused to work while under contract, it would be different....

And then you read about former football players, who can barely walk, use there arms, and have damage from being hit in the head too many times. Alot of players love the game, but than because of contracts which aren't guranteed and a player who does not love the game quits/retires before the start of a season it's crazy for him to do so, but when a team has no use for a player anymore, regardless of the contract he signs they can just let him go.
