True ... if he was healed. But, it doesn't heal that quickly. For ACL repairs using donated tendons, the recovery time is 4-6 months at best. If it's his own tendon, it's more like 6-8 months. I don't know which type of surgery he had, I would suspect that he had the cadaver. But, that means no sooner than 4 months. So, end of November, early December at the very earliest. If so, then it's not worth it.

Here is the link: http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8478077

he had the surgery May 15th. so by your recovery time table, he COULD be reay by late sept.....

It wouldn't be rushing back if he's healed and ready to go. I agree it's a long shot that he'll be back any time this year, but it is still a possibility.

It takes a full year for a repaired ACL to stabilize as a ligament and get its full blood supply. He DEFINITELY won't be playing this year.

I see a lot of people acting like they have a lot of knowledge about Poole's injury in particular and about the ACL recovery process in general. I know we have a talented and knowledgeable fanbase, but it's hard to tell which ones of you are 15 year olds relating the experience of the local high school sports hero who had the injury in college, which ones of you have gone through this injury, and which ones of you are doctors. It makes it kind of hard to know what to believe. If any of you do have expertise, I know I would appreciate it if you mentioned what it is.

I think you're barely qualified to post a link to a news story in that case! ;)

Well I've posted my experience with torn ACLs before. I tore my right ACL 12 years ago and I tore my left ACL back in December. I will say the difference in the operation is night and day in the 12 years between my injuries. I was in great shape 12 years ago (high school soccer) and it took me at least 8 months before I was fully confident in my knee. I'm in a lot worse physical shape now and I'd say I'ma bout another month away from being fully confident in my knee.

After 6 months, the physical pain/limitations are really gone and it's all about mental confidence. As long as the graft holds and the bone heals correctly, the new ligament shouldn't go anywhere. Both times I've taken a graft from my patella tendon but I've heard they'll do hamstring grafts now. I have no experience with that, so I cannot comment on which is better. My orthopedic doctor recommended that I stay with the patella since I had such great success with it before.

Anyway, I HIGHLY doubt that Poole will play this year. I know the NFL players get the best facilities and doctor's available to them, but it's really all up to Will and his confidence. Just my :2c:

EDIT: P.S. If anyone wants to see the cool orthoscopic pictures from my surgery, just say so and I'll post them somewhere :D

Man i sure hope that he can be ready for the mid season because we def need him.

I'm not a doctor, but I've had ACL tears in both my knees. I've had both kinds of surgeries as well. Through my experience, I've done a pretty good deal of research on the subject. So, what I say is based both on my experience and research.

Thanks to both of you. I know I'd hate to go through that even once, but you guys have done it twice. I'm sure you have been very motivated to keep up with things.

I think you're right on relative to the stabilization issue, but I think it greatly depends on the person and how physically fit they were before the injury. The stabilization really is the muscles around the joint ... correct?

Also, I don't know about the blood supply issue. I didn't think ligaments had any blood supply.

I realize that you're a physical therapist based on your earlier post, so I give you the benefit of the doubt on this. I just thought differently.
