I kinda thought Dansby and Burnett were good

They are good LB's but not necessarily good for our system. Ellerbe and Wheeler are fast blitzing LB's but probably not as effective in coverage.

Not to mention that Dansby went against the grain a lot with our front office. He is very outspoken, and I think that made it easier to let him go.

Burnett was oft-injured and did not do what he was supposed to be good at: coverage. Ellerbe was supposed to be the heir-apparent to Ray Lewis for years.
Miami just is in a great year to have cap money, period. So many teams have to let go talented players and Miami is here to scoop them up.
The more NFL experienced talent we can get now, the more picks we can trade in the draft to move up for the cream of the crop of these early rounds. Move up and get Milliner, or move up and get THE premium offensive lineman.

This move saves us from having to draft linebackers for a few years assuming these guys are any good. Whats disturbing is we tried out wheeler last year apparently and decided he sucked.

Remember that Miami didn't have much cap space last offseason and 30 other teams passed on him also. Players blossom at different speeds. Soliai was on the hot seat to get cut before the 2010 season, than he became a stud. Wheeler blossomed in Oakland.

Both the Raiders and the Ravens wanted to keep their LB's but neither could afford to do so. We got better, faster and cheaper in one day.

Well I've been wanting Dansby out for a while now so I'm glad he's gone. We paid him as if he were Ray Lewis and he's not even a Top 10 linebacker. But he's still solid.

If the guy took care of his conditioning better and was as invested about football as Zach Thomas, he'd be a top 3 linebacker easily. He's got the physical tools to be it but just not completely invested into football.

No doubt we got younger with these moves, but our linebackers were not our problem last year by any means. Players always seem like they are better when they are playing for someone else. When you see every play, thats when you can start picking a guy a part. (Remember how much everyone loved it when we signed Dansby and Burnett?). I wonder if we won't start picking apart these recent signings too once we see these guys play every down.

Is that a joke? Did you even watch them play? Slow, missed tackles in the passing game, couldnt cover, couldnt blitz. They were good against the run and thats it. They were a huge problem last year

I also think people need to stop looking at free agents as long term solutions. We can't cap ourselves out, we need flexibility moving forward. We can't do what that idiot GM of the Jets left them with.

Reshad Jones deserves and should get an extension before the beginning of the season. Around 5-6 million per season.

We still have no red zone playmakers. None. Hartline gets a touchdown a season and Wallace scores most of the touchdowns off of his speed and deep throws. We need Matthews to step up, take the next step. He plays a lot more physical than any of the receivers we have, especially over the middle. We need two tight ends, a duo threat like the Patriots. If we even draft one of the talents at tight ends this draft whether first or second round (very deep tight end pool), I'd feel a lot better about our offense. Keller isn't the answer though, he's a guy I'd like to sign on a one year deal.

We still need a tackle and a guard too.

There are so many holes on our team still. Still a 7-9 team at best in my eyes.

Don't worry, you wouldn't.

Some of you guys look pretty ridiculous on this topic. Ellerbe and Wheeler might be the worst LB duo in football. Defense took a significant step back this year and I think the change at LB is why. Now we're stuck with these guys.

Kevin Burnett had an even worse year than Wheeler. the only one who had a good (very good even) season out of those four guys was Dansby.

Dansby was very good against the run. Burnett overall was OK against the run. Both were absolutely horrible against the pass and were not playmakers in the least. With that being said both Dansby and Burnett were better than Ellerbe and Wheeler

Wheeler was rated dead last so I think Burnett may have been better. Dansby definitley had a nice year in Arizona and had a chance at his first Pro Bowl. Many say he got snubbed. So I agrer with you on that point.

It's an upgrade when Dansby a supposed leader comes to camp overweight and doesn't start to play decent until 7/8 games into the season. How anyone can complain that Philbin dumped his big butt and equally big contract I don't understand!

Let me know when Ellerbe ever comes into camp out of shape.

Burnett tackled. that alone made him better. but statistically, Burnett was the worst LB in coverage.

The chattering class, hopes people forget the **** certain players did, to get a ticket out of town.

Last week it was Marshall. This week its Dansby/Burnett. When's Jake Longs turn?
