It was at Dolphins Stadium against the Saints. I was there.

The buzz about Ricky William's first game in a Dolphins uniform was unreal. Everyone was excited.

However, in that first preseason game, the offensive line looked terrible. Ricky had no room whatsoever to run, and Jay Fiedler was getting rushed all the time he was in.

All the talk after that game was "What good is Ricky going to do if we can't block for him?"

"Our line is terrible!...blah blah blah"

Then he proceeded to rush for over 1,800 yards, and everyone praised the o-line.

And the line of that year doesn't have the talent or the coaching that the current one has.

Great post. Preseason NFL has almost no standing on how you will do in the regular season. Heck because this was the HOF game is like pre-pre season.

Dude, excellent post. I as well remember this game and all the hype surrounding Williams. If IM not mistaking, he got just as many carries that game if not more.

We have to keep in mind this is preseason and since we have so much confidence in Saban to make adjustments we will be fine.

Great post...there is no question the parallel between this and last nights game, because it Preseason...chill out dolphans!

Yes, excellent post! I was also at that game and remember vividly that Fiedler played horribly (3 picks I think) and Lucas actually played very well and got the most cheers. These games are glorified practices guys and girls....nothing more. I can't remember Ricky ever having a good pre-season game.

....And all that happened under the watch of a Head coach that had an extremely conservitive offense philosophy, was unwilling to change gameplan at halftime to give his team a better chance to win, and an O-line coach that was going to do very little in the way of making his line better. Got to give this team a little time, before panicking, let's wait and see how they look in the 3rd game, give them some time to learn, and get better.

Remember, the great undefeated team Miami had in 72, did not exactly look great in preseason.

I had forgotten.....I thought the first preseason game that year was against Tampa Bay.....but no worries.
