I recall perfectly our first preseason game in 2002

:yeahthat: This team will come together, just wait:)

i have no worries about the o, its the secondary that worries me a little

Well lads, what happened in 2002 has absolutely NOTHING to do with how we'll fair this season. I'm sorry, but one does not affect the outcome of the other.

While I agree, that last nights game was just a way for Coach to sample his players and coaches and nothing more, it still has no reflection upon other games past or present.

It's called making a parallel with two very similar situations.

It was at Dolphins Stadium against the Saints. I was there.

The buzz about Ricky William's first game in a Dolphins uniform was unreal. Everyone was excited.

However, in that first preseason game, the offensive line looked terrible. Ricky had no room whatsoever to run, and Jay Fiedler was getting rushed all the time he was in.

All the talk after that game was "What good is Ricky going to do if we can't block for him?"

"Our line is terrible!...blah blah blah"

Then he proceeded to rush for over 1,800 yards, and everyone praised the o-line.

And the line of that year doesn't have the talent or the coaching that the current one has.

Very good point! You can tell almost nothing about teams in the preseason. It's only good for evaluating individual players, and even that's only to a point. Heck, Saban won't even be gameplanning for an opponent till the last two games - that makes a huge difference right there, especially for coaches like Saban.

Thanks for the dose of reality. The truth is, we won't know till Oct./Nov. what kind of team we will have! These games are never a good barometer for actual results! They're only good for putting us to

Actually, had the last six minutes of last night not happened, there would be an unbalanced sense of euphoria on the board today.

No kidding. It's amazing how a win - even an absolutely worthless preseason win over a bad team - makes everything feel all better. Remember when we beat the Rams for the first win last season? It made you feel - for a few minutes at least - like everything was going to be alright.

If we had won, there would be all these "we're going to the Super Bowl" posts. Oh well, that's what we fans are for, right!

The guys that won't make their team beat the guys who won't make our team....but in the end they are all enemployed!

Thanks I really needed to hear that after what I saw last night. Heres to improvment in the next month;)

Its the same thing every year. I kind of get a chuckle out of all the hysteria after a preseason game, both positive and negative.

P.S. Even Uber Ricky of 2002 and 2003 had similiar stats to what he put up last night during the pre-seasons of those 2 years. As long as there is improvement, I'm not worried. 8-8 to 10-6 sounds about right.

I remember that game to. Thanks for lifting everyone spirits.

How the hell did you find out that stat?

It's funny, I thought we had a few bad spots last night, I didn't like the secondary play and wasn't fun of the OL not opening holes for running plays, but I think we weren't as bad as the threats I've read here today.

The areas I thought needed cleaning up:
Blitz protection, I like the OL one on one pass blocking
Run Blocking: No room for the backs...and I'll say it again..chicago is one of the better D's
Secondary play:
I'm not sure how much of last night had to do with tire legs, but we were sluggish.
There were a lot of positives, like the depth at receiver. Y. Bell at FS was great to me, he was all over the field. Howard had one bad mental breakdown, other than that, his first series was great. but somehow we're out of position on the deep throws overall. Our D Blitzes looked a lot better than in the past and I know they are still working on it. Again everyone, all this stuff is new to both D and O..I actually liked last nights game..I'm looking forward to this season.

The difference then and now is that the rest of the AFCE aren't as weak as they were back then plus you have a hard sched this year.
