i was glad when we bought ryan leaf in for a workout. just because a guy is a bust for one team doesn't mean he can't turn it around for another. leaf did tun out to be a bust, but it didn't cost us anything to check him out.

as far as mitchell goes, if he were on our team now, where do you think he would be on the depth chart. i say no worst than 4th, and maybe third.

Mitchell has had 1 big catch in his career (4th down 2 years ago) and he talks like he is the best WR in the world!

Not A Saban team player! He is a Me Guy!

(I already noted my mistake -- the suck of Mitchell and the suck of Pinkston got confused in my mind)

I think calling a man who at best gave a team BEGGING for somebody to step up 35 catches and under 500 yards at his peak a decent #2/#3 WR is a stretch at best. Let's put it this way: in his best season, he underpeformed the very disappointing Niners receiver Brandon Lloyd. He underperformed #2 Niners WR Cedrick Wilson. He pretty much blows, has always blown, and always will blow.

Not to mention Cedrick Wilson and Brandon Lloyd's quarterback's last year were Tim Rattay and Ken Dorsey. Freddie Mitchell had Donovan McNabb... Just makes it all the more sad. :shakeno:

He'd fall under Newson at best. That would put him 6th.
 
derrius thompson had 23 catches last year, gilmore had 15 catches. no other wide reciever on our team had more than 5 receptions. its not like we have harrison, wayne, and stokely...

To be clear, Mitchell's best year was 2003. To be charitable to him, it is the one I used when comparing to those Niners and their 2004 seasons.

The situation was dire in Philly in 2003. Mitchell was supposed to step up and finally earn his paycheck. Instead, he managed to get outperformed by James Thrash and Todd "Alligator Arms" Pinkston. Don't take my word for it:

In contrast, Derrius was a role player last year. Nobody expected him to push Booker or Chambers, who each had over 500 yards in down years for both of them. Remember, we were a disaster last year. The Eagles were a PLAYOFF TEAM in 2003. Gilmore has never done much, but he's a role player. He doesn't pop off at the mouth like he's TO. Freddie does.
