I think it safe to say that Alex Smith will be the pick...

Wrong....We couldn't afford Alex Smith even if did get rid of Surtains salary. And even if we could possibly afford to sign him he would literally be the only player we would be able to sign. No come on is that really good for the team? No matter how bad we need a quarterback it would be Flatout IGNORANT move on our part if we did. Its a good thing you guys aren't incharge of these decisions.

Wouldn't that also be the case with any player we select with the 2nd overall pick? Anyone selected in the top 5 will expect top 5 money. Given that, what position would you suggest we draft?

Smith is well ahead on the 9ers board. The ONLY way that they don't draft him is if the York's start deciding that cash is more important than rebuilding their team. You can't pick a player over who wants to get paid less. You pick thebest player on your board. That player is Alex Smith. But if the York's lowball him, then they will take Rodgers, much to the annoyance of most of the 9ers brass.

:yeahthat:

and not only that, but everyone on here who thinks that Smith's contract demands are high is wrong as well......they have only asked for incrementally more than the top pick last year, which is the way it goes every year....the 49ers are being cheap as hell.

Likewise, if Smith was taken number 2 overall, they wouldn't ask for the same amount, just incrementally more than the #2 overall got last year.

If I were a Niners fan and they DIDN'T take Smith based off of the contract demands I would be pissed!!

:fire:

The 49rs will be selecting Rodgers while leaving Smith to the Dolphins.I don't think Saban will passed this opportunity to draft a QB who he feels strong about.Saban personally took time after workout to have meeting with QB prospect.

People get ready to start buying #11 Smith jerseys.

Safe to say? NO. I think it will be so though, and i will buy myself an Alex Smith Jersey. :D

I think Campbell has the mo'.......he definitely could be the 2nd QB taken. But if I'm Rodgers and I want to play for the 49ers as a local kid, why not drop to late 1st so SF can trade up for me. So what if it means a few million....it could be made up thru incentives, etc

So it's Rodgers' decision where he goes in the draft? :D

Then this could easily become a case study/example on how a team can fall from greatness to the cellar level of the NFL. They go from a Saks Fifth Ave. type of owner to a cheap 7-11 one.

In my opinion we may very well get Alex Smith and then J.J. Arrington at #46 now that we have it

It seems unlikely that the 9ers would take a player based upon contract demands, unless the demands are unreasonable. You never know whats been said. If they take Rodgers Id say they have him higher rated. This might turn into a testy situation if Nolan wants Smith real bad but others dont. 49ers organization used to be a model franchise, now they are a model disaster.

Yeah ok, The niners have been playing with different players for a couple weeks trying to lure a tradedown offer, they switched over to Smith once they saw there was more tradeup interest in him over Rodgers.

San Francisco is simply playing the game.

You arguing with Boom? :) I actually agree with you, but Boomer has been great for inside info, so i'm wary about discarding his thoughts on the deal....if Smith is really rated that high on their board......

I think Smith or Edwards will go to the 49ers. And, vice versa with us.

Edwards is a smoke screen to force the Vikings to ante up.

99.1% Smith will be a Dolphins if he is there.
