I think those changes worked on the O line

The thing to key in last night's O-line play was how well D Mac played at LT. Carey was in only for a short time, as a matter of fact, I thought he might have been hurt or something because he didnt play much. But The O-line as a whole played well. Therefore we can continue having D Mac at LT and Carey at RT. This is great because next year we can concentrate in getting a decent center and our O-line will be set.

Some depth too maybe?

That's a good point. It's only one game.

True. They may even go backwards and take time to get the consistency. But at least we saw what they are capable of doing even if it takes some time to get consistantly that good. If we do revert, I bet it won't be long before anoither good game from teh O-line. It would be nice if they stay like this, but even if not, it will happen under H-O-U-C-K-!!!!!!!

HH in his interview said we would field the same lineup that started the game ..which means carey at right tackle

That's not true. Carey played most of the 1st half.

2-4-TB36(6:16) R.Brown right end to TB 32 for 4 yards (W.Allen).
PENALTY on MIA-S.McDougle, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at TB 36 - No Play.

McDougle was in at 6:16 of second quarter with this penalty. He was in the game on this being the fifth time we had the ball. Not for sure when he entered the game but Carey was out for sure with 6:16 to go in Half.

The current setup is definitely better. You can't afford to have someone playing out of position at the vital LT spot in this league, and that was Carey until last week. McIntosh is a natural LT who is much better than I thought based on watching him last year. He'll still never be a run blocking demon and should be in better shape, but the pass blocking footwork and technique at LT were a joy to watch after seeing Carey try to cover up for obvious flaws at LT in the first three games. We need a premier talent or two in the interior but this group should be competent against the mid-to-lesser defensive fronts. The beasts will maul us.

I Tivo'd the game and am half-way through the second quarter. I watched each offensive play in slow-mo and am only focusing on the Oline. I am actually scared how well they have done to this point. They used alot of schemes where they aren't blocking straight-up man to man, but using a directional blocking scheme where they slant the weak side down and pull a guy or two from the strong-side or use the fullback to kick out the weak side d-line players. Those plays are tough to commit. Very effective when done well, but tough to commit. The Fins were doing a GREAT job with this scheme so far in the game. Even when they were blocking straight-up they were doing well. I am very hopeful if they can keep this up. The passing schemes are still having a bit of trouble with the outside rush because our QBs take at least 7 drop steps and sometimes even 9 steps which I blame more on the Qb than the O-line (OK, 50/50). That makes it very tough to stop the guy from coming around the corner if he has speed. No sacks yet but they are making Gus move around a lot which is making him commit many mistakes. So far I'm loving it!

well, you have to give credit where credit is due and I think Seth mckinney has turned the corner from not hitting anyone to now actually putting his body on someone and actually plowed back some bodies last night.

0 sacks given Up by our O line. Prety darn good. what do you think those changes work or did tampa's D suck that bad? (i didnt see the game)

I think these changes were good for 2 reasons.

1. Many would argue that Carey and Hadnot have been the 2 best lineman through camp for us. Why not play them on the same side to at least be able to rely on those guys in short yardage situations and run behind them with confidence.

2. Putting MacIntosh back on the right side means he is playing next to James and McKinney. At least those 3 guys played together last season and may have more continuity on that left side then any other combination.

I just hope Saban sticks with it so these guys can get some work together. they should only improve.

The OL seemed to gel last night as a unit playing the same exact lineup that we fielded in the final 5 or 6 games last season...which baffles me.

I'm reviewing. I'll post something later.

Coaching?

you didnt watch the game did you?

i apologized earlier for this, so give me a break. Its kind of hard to see miami play when you live in The poconos of Pennsylvania. My family can't afford direct tv, nor do they even offer it around half this state. You have to remove half the trees on your land to do it. so no, sorry, i didn't see the game.

It's all good! the season will be right around the corner. Do you get the regular season games? The Oline will gel, and become better, it will just take a little bit! Keep the Faith!:beerbang:

That's one of the best posts regarding the OL. Very true, we're relying on much more movement from the guards and fullback in this blocking scheme, resurrecting some of the type of plays that worked so well in 2002 when Jamie Nails was healthy and Ricky popped the big gainers on inside counter plays. Still, these blocking schemes are not identical to those, more complicated and I'm having trouble identifying the individual responsibilities in some cases. But very interesting to watch. Sometimes I think the schemes require better, more manueverable athletes than we have on the OL. Jeno James excelled on some similar plays for Carolina in 2003.

Also an excellent point regarding the deep pass drops. I posted here a week or two ago that our tackles were taking very shallow drops. Then I looked again and concluded it wasn't really a case of shallow drops, just shallow drops in comparison to the depth of the pass drops. Frerotte, in particular, seems to prefer the deep drops. The DE can have basically a straightline to the QB off the OT's outside shoulder if the QB drops deep enough.

If you ever make it to Southern California, you got a place to watch the game. In the meantime, why don't you try to hook up with some of the Dolphin Brotherin in your area?
