I would rather move up in the draft and take

This also assumes a guy like Martin is still there. Let's say Robinson, Matthews, Lewan, Martin are all gone. Now what? Do you reach a little bit for Tiny Richardson or maybe Sua Fi'lo? Do you really want a guard in rd one anyway? Trade back? Well if those guys were drafted the odds are better that Mosley, Ebron, or Pryor slid. How do you pass up those guys for someone who just as easily could be had in rd 2? The draft can fall a lot of different ways. Maybe you trade back, add picks, and still get one of those second tier linemen.

I'd be happy with Martin at 19, again, because of the versatility you mentioned in your great write up a few days ago; but outside of him and the few top LTs, I take BPA.

I'd normally agree with BPA as a rule for the first couple of rounds, but if what's being said about this draft is true, and it's as deep as any draft in memory, then perhaps going need over BPA could leave us in much better shape.

I would also prefer to trade up and take Taylor Lewan. IMHO, he looks like he may be the best ZBS pass protector in this draft. Great track record in college, looked smooth to the eye test, great length and strength, durable, hungry, and tested fantastically at the combine. What's not to like? He is good in the run game, and has a bit of a grinder attitude.

Greg Robinson is the best in the run game, and has the most potential, but he isn't going to be ready next year and we don't really know if he ever will be ready. Two of the best pass protection years we ever had were from rookie LT's, Richmond Webb and Jake Long. Taylor Lewan looks like he could step right in and be exceptional at LT and should only get better.

Looking at the draft now, it looks doubtful that Lewan goes ahead of (in no particular order) Clowney, Mack, Bridgewater, Bortles, Watkins, Robinson or Matthews. That means the highest his market would reach would be 8th. If he makes it to 10th, Detroit can get just about the same player at 19 that they get at 10 (top 3 CB) and would likely be interested in trading down. If we got Lewan, we'd have the money to pay Soliai this year and bring in a Zane Beadles to play next to Lewan. It would save us a lot of money for the next 5 years, not to mention Tannehill's blind side being secure for the next 10 years.

I like Monroe, and if we can get him, I'm all for it. But, he will not come cheaply, and if we could trade up to around 10, we could assure ourselves of a very good LT. What I don't want to happen is to see us get picky and miss out on the top FA's and draft picks at LT. Lewan fits us better than any other player in the draft. While I like Zack Martin, to me, he projects as an elite LG and only a solid LT.

lewan may fall right in your lap staying put...if his off the field and character concerns have him off boards...if he gets past #15 i'd say you'll know why...and why he probably will continue to drop right past us...miamis not gonna mess around with potential distractions like that when they dont have to...

he's either on boards and going in front of us or off and sliding right past us...

Perhaps I don't know the whole story, but I've heard only 2 of field incidents with Lewan:

Story 1. He hit an Ohio State Fan!!!!!
Reality: Even the fan admitted that Lewan broke up the fight and while the fan maintains he was hit, he begrudgingly acknowledged that it wasn't Lewan who hit him.

Story 2. He urinated in public!!!!!!
Reality: He was a college student ... and that's just a little worse than a speeding ticket in my book.

Taylor Lewan is attempting to set the record straight on two reported red flags.

There is another story that Lewan felt the need to try to clear up at the Combine which may make him almost untouchable for the Dolphins.

INDIANAPOLIS — Taylor Lewan said at the NFL scouting combine that he was “not here to defend Brendan Gibbons” and denied any involvement in an alleged rape case that resulted in Gibbons’ removal from the University of Michigan.

The Michigan Daily reported on Jan. 28 that Gibbons had been “permanently separated” from the university as of mid-December for violating the school’s Student Sexual Misconduct Policy in 2009. Gibbons was accused in ’09 of raping a fellow student while at a party. The alleged victim also accused Lewan, a longtime teammate of Gibbons with the Wolverines, of then threatening her if she pursued charges — “I’m going to rape her because, [Gibbons] didn’t.”

Lewan told the media Thursday that he never made that comment.

Buyer Beware of Michigan's Taylor Lewan
The last red flag is the way Lewan has lost control of his temper on the football field, most especially in last November’s game against Michigan State. He was seen twisting people’s heads while clutching onto their facemasks on multiple occasions and even brutally ripping a players’ facemask up while he lay on the ground (see below). It was hardly the first time Lewan had been accused of dirty play, it was just the most egregious incident, as this came two years after questionable conduct in the 2011 Michigan State game.

Looks like he'll be passed up.. I wouldn't blame them. Why would you draft an offensive lineman with issues like that after the Martin/Incog debacle

Is this a negative?

There isn't a right answer here... The only answer is to find a damn LT that can block through the draft or free agency. It doesn't ****ing matter from where... Just do it...

I'm still taking Odell Beckham at #19. You can't clear all your problems with one pick, you need to methodically add talent.

Beckham is all about football. He's fast, he's tough, he's got good hands, he can go up for it, he can separate, he can stop on a dime and he knows how to get open. He can line up anywhere, handle kicks/punts, plays smart football.

No red flags other than a funky haircut.

hahahahhahahahah
First, to begin with, I live in Michigan. and a HUGE wolverine fan. I would NOT trade up to pick Lewan, he is good, but he is not THAT good. Second, all these "red flags" that you are hearing about make me laugh even harder. The incident of him on the field pulling the face mask is the worst there is, and I don't think it'd a big deal, he was repaying Michigan State back for the year before when William Gholston did the exact same thing to Michigan. If he is somehow falls to us I would love for him to be the pick, but in no way shape, or form am I trading up to draft him or any player this year, talking of "trading up" this year is for a lack of a better word, retarded. With everyone saying that this is the deepest draft in years, we should actually trade down if anything.

Lewan is good enough that at 19 you take him. If he's off your board for whatever reason then the next best thing is to probably trade back, someone wants Lewan and will deal for that pick to get him.
