....but I feel like we have gotten rid of any chance he had at success when we traded Marshall. Moore is the type of QB who has success by giving his playmakers a chance (and usually a good one at that) to make the big play, something that Henne never could. Moore and Marshall were on fire in the second half, and when teams focused on taking that away Moore spread the ball to whatever other guy on offense was in position to make a play. But the key to the whole thing was Marshall, either teams took him away and Moore found the other guys, or teams didn't take him away and Moore found him repeatedly for big plays. Without Marshall, we have no guys who can be big threats by themselves, and coverage will be spread evenly. Moore simply isn't exceptionally accurate over the middle, which is what he'll have to be even if we bring in a couple competent pass catchers (right now there is only 1 plus Hartline)
Of the two name QB's out there, I'm resigned to the fact that Manning may be looking for something different than Miami could have offered even with Marshall, and I just don't have any faith in Matt Flynn's ability to do much when he's not in the league's most talented offense- something that we are about as far from as I can imagine right now. Moore proved that he could provide competent and sometimes spectacular QB play, and our winning 6 of our last 9 was fairly impressive considering how poorly this team and especially this offense had played in over a year's worth of games dating back to the start of 2010.
I don't think it's unreasonable to think that it was at least possible for us to contend for a wild card, just based on our second half of last year, with Moore at the helm. Please note that I'm not saying that we would or should have, just that it was very possible considering. But there's no way this happens without Marshall.
