Idea for what we can do with Dion Jordan.

Jordan should be a LB. Nothing crazy about that.
I still don't get the move to DE. He was more of a LB type to start with and we were starved at LB and fine at DE. If it were the opposite I could see them trying to make him into a DE but it just makes no sense to me. Now he will probably go the way of Jason Allen.

The way I look at it is this...

1. His athleticism and potential game changing in-space play is more valuable off the line than on it. Play him in space

2. His trade value has dropped considerably so I don't believe it's worth attempting to trade him until he has shown something on the field for his value to go up.

3. I'm keen to see if he's dropped any weight with this 6 week layoff. If so... and with the depth at DE - move him to LB and give him the rest of this year to help in Nickel and key packages. Then have a full off season to work on SAM [his time at DE should translate to better setting of the edge at SAM] and all of next year.

4. If he still hasn't produced and there isn't much interest or a relatable trade value - then and only then would I consider moving him to TE, which in itself would be a very interesting prospect. However, his salary would have gone up as he'd be in year 4 so may not be worth it.

I really would like to see a LB corps of Jordan, McCain and Tripp - new age athletic LB's for a new age passing game. Oh, and I'd put McCain at MIKE.

We drafted Dion to play DE. Currently we have 3-4 good De's (wake/Vernon/Shelby/odrick? and isn't a need. He could go to linebacker but he wouldn't start and wheeler has been ok so far.

Dion is a leaner muscular player. He really doesn't have the bulk/size for De or even linebacker. But he is built like a prototypical seam threat TE. Dude is 6'6 and is an athletic freak. Is fast/quick/explosive. Can jump high has big hands. Strong.

Why don't we try to mold him into a TE like some teams do with basketball players? We need a TE and Jordan doesn't really have a position on the defensive side. Maybe it's worth a shot?

i know it's a somewhat crazy idea , but I'd say its worth a shot.

i said that a year ago

As for trying him at tight end, here's the problem:

What makes you think he could pick up the offensive playbook?

He will mots like flounder around here for another year or 2, with the team not knowing how to use him. Then somebody will pick him up after we cut him, and he will be used as a OLB as he should, he may grow up a bit, and then become a great player...just not for this outfit.
Or, he'll just follow his dream and go full time with the drugs and be out of the league in 3 or 4 years.

With Shelby getting in trouble we might need him to stay at DE.
