If Aponte was a Man?

Many people on this board have a dislike for Dawn Aponte. I know it would be hard to admit it, but does some of it come from here being a female. If she was a male, would the attitude change?

Thank you. In one of my posts I mentioned "sour grapes" when people bitch about Aponte but my finger itched to add two words: and chauvinism.

I am glad you mentioned it.

I don't like the tattletale story. I mean, who wants to work with someone like that?

Really? Are you referring to the story where Irland bitched to others about Philbin and Aponte told Philbin about it?

What is worse: that your (essentially) boss trashes you to others yet never says anything to you or that someone else in the company comes to you and tells you what your boss really thinks of you?

Ireland is a coward. He is worse than anything this organization has ever had. If the story is true combined with using local writers for 'his' side of the story I am so friggin glad he is gone. I thought he was only a bad GM a la Spielman but he is way below that.

Yes. This part..

During those final two games, while the Dolphins underperformed on the field, Ireland watched from the press box or a club suite and complained about the job the coaches were doing. And executive vice president of football administration Dawn Aponte heard Ireland’s complaints. And Aponte told Philbin of Ireland’s complaints word for word.

You're making a big assumption about what Ireland said in a club suite while watching the game, and what he said to Philbin directly.

In the last two games, while Miami was in total collapse, I could see many Miami Dolphins fans & execs venting angry words of frustration at their TVs. Maybe Ireland blurted out something like "Philbin, you f**ing moron, are you really this incompetent???".

And maybe Ireland wasn't aware that Dawn Aponte had walked into the club suite, and overheard his comments.

Whatever the case, I'm sure that after Dawn Aponte told Philbin exactly what Ireland said word-for-word, Philbin was less than thrilled.

But as a Miami Dolphins fan, I am concerned about the presence of someone like Dawn Aponte in an organization, because many potential GMs will be reluctant to work in an organization like that.

I am also glad that Ireland is gone. But someone like Dawn Aponte is also poisonous for building a cohesive team environment.

If I had to work with Dawn Aponte, I would be bringing her her favorite coffee and bagel/donut/whatever.

Because I dont want to be on the bad bad side of her. Not becuase she is a woman, but because she seeks power.

I add. She is one hell of a capologist. But I find out who she favors and dont say a word.

walking on eggshells.

The problem with your approach is that you could easily bring her coffee & donuts for years, and she could smile, thank you, and then one day just throw you under the bus because it suits her needs.

As you noted, she seeks power. The ONLY reason she will do anything to save you is if you have power, and you'll use it to help her.

The coffee & donuts approach is a superficial schmoozing approach, and Dawn Aponte is a master of that game. It is highly unlikely you will be able to manipulate her, since she basically wrote that book.

The only way you can protect yourself from Dawn Aponte is to have your own leverage & power & alliances. And this is very difficult to do, since she's probably in the top 1% at playing office politics. She's the one making excuses to get on private jets with billionaire Stephen Ross, so she can schmooz him over. It's very difficult to beat a master at their own game.
