If Dolphins didn't go for 4 & 5 OR get a TD...we would have lost

If gostkowski makes that fg earlier they only need a fg to win and probably do so. Ifs and buts man.

Sure if Fields was looking we would have had a FG too.

The whole point is we needed to do something at the end of the game to win and we did just that. That hasn't been the case for a long time.

I posted last week that as much as I like Philbin he needed to take more chances before the half (instead of letting clock run while sitting on 3 timeouts) and try and score TD's more than FG's.

It takes 2.5 made FG's to catch one pay dirt play....Its worth the risk to keep the chains moving on short downs.

I personally didnt think it was even something that was especially ballsy of a call. I couldnt imagine a thought process that would lead any coach to the conclusion that not going for it gave us the best chance to win.

It happens very often. See every sucker that has lost to the pats in the final minute this year.

Yep, you have to recognize the chances of you converting a 4th down when your offense has had a decent day is better than the chances of you stopping a HOF QB and getting the ball back.

And if the blind ref calls a holding penalty on the amendola touchdown when wake got face raped, we probably hold them to 3.

The kick out of bounds really helped too. Team of destiny.

The Patriots were 86% likely to win the game before that play, and only 63% likely to win it after it.

"And if the blind ref calls a holding penalty on the amendola touchdown when wake got face raped, we probably hold them to 3. " OMG I was screaming my lungs out in a sports bar in Westchester NY on that one. That was terrible.

I was surprised that pass interference wasn't called on the (I think) second to last pass by Brady. There's no way that Miami would stop them on 1st and goal at the 1.

if brandon fields were doing his holding job correctly.....

Guys, think about how we got into the 4th and 5 to begin with. A low % 1st down long pass to Wallace, then sack of -7, 3rd and 17 to hartline for 12. You know the rest.
At that pt in the game, even if we would have connected w Wallace, time would have really been on the patsies side.

Great game!

I was thinking about how if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle, but then I read your post and started thinking about THAT... now, what was I thinking about before your thread?????

Simms was saying to punt. I had no confidence the defense would stop them from scoring, let alone get the ball back. I thought Philbin made the only move he really could there.

When I first saw the play call, I was mad. I get so sick of these passes short of the sticks. But Clay wouldn't be denied and he got a couple of nice blocks.

If the Dolphins become a perennial AFC contender for the next few years, we might look back at that play as the launching point.

Continued proof that those percentages mean nothing yet you continue with them

Exactly, it's common sense. I don't need a stat to tell me a shorter field gives me a better probability of scoring/winning.

Someone needs to take the pants off their head.
