I am completely behind this plan.
Simple way to get him. Cut Moore. Cut Patterson. Frees up an extra $10 million. Boom. Got him. If Hickey is cool with paying a backup who came in for one game and sucked $5 million instead of going after the best safety in FA. I'd love to keep Patterson too if he's healthy. My main point: Cut Moore or make him take a pay cut. We'd still have $16 million left, including the draft and Albert at about 8 million a year. Can make 2/3 big splashes this year.
We should go after him with a contract slightly better than the one Hickey signed Dashon Goldson to in Tampa Bay, 5 years $42.5M, $18M guaranteed. That would still leave us over $22M to get a DT and rebuild our OL. Sign Eugene Monroe, Zane Beadles and Linval Joseph and let's get to the draft.
“The door is not closed on anything. I’m not closing the door on any opportunities at all. The lines of communication are still open,” Byrd told ESPN.com. “I’ve talked to [CEO] Russ [Brandon] and [general manager] Doug [Whaley] a couple days ago. We’re talking. So it’s not anything that’s hard feelings or anything like that. The conversations that we’ve had, we know what’s going on. We’re all on the same page. We’ll go from here.”
Byrd suggested that a report saying he turned down a three-year, $30 million contract from the Bills was incorrect.“I don’t want to get into details, but I will say any time you have something where it’s a source, an unnamed source, and the full details of the situation aren’t revealed, you can’t really believe everything you hear,” Byrd said.

I'd love Byrd to go with Jones. If we can't get him, or Ward, we should keep Clemons. Also agree on cutting Moore, he looked bad in spot duty this year, and generally is overrated on this site.
