IF Miami goes WR Rd. 1

If miami goes wr (which we shouldnt considering our other needs) it needs to be Lee

Lee and wallace would be an awesome pair

Odell Beckham Jr is my guy, please god I hope the Jets don't pick him right above us

If Miami goes receiver in round 1 Hickey will be a lost cause in my book.... Not even remotely close to a need... Like taking a quarterback in the first.

It's not always about position of need, its about best player available. Zach Martin won't be a special tackle, hes a guard.

I feel the same way about cooks but lee is a viable back up plan

@Madridista So, if the best player available is defensive end do you take him? How about a power scheme tackle? Or a 3-4 OLB? What about quarterback do you spend a 1st round pick on a quarterback?

This best player available rhetoric is all fine and dandy, but it's the best player available out of the specific NEEDS of the team. Hickey has even said this himself already.

no doubt. BPA to me means best player on their board. They're not going to have scheme misfits high up and probably drop players in positions that are of little need. Just because there's a big board of the top prospects on ESPN or wherever doesn't mean our board resembles it one bit. You can be confident going BPA because you have your board set to your preferences.

Coleman from Rutgers in the 3rd if you want a big bodied receiver

I've been advocating Zack Martin in the first. But if they take a WR Lee would be a bad fit. He's Mike Wallace 2.0 but better after the catch. I love Cooks but he is just a slot receiver.

I don't agree with calling Lee "Mike Wallace 2.0". Lee has better hands and can separate with his route running in addition to using his speed

I don't know if there is a guy at WR that deserves a 1st round pick at 19 with the specific skills and game that WE need though. This may sound like heresy coming from me who loves all things offense and hates inside-out football, but why get a guy who plays like everyone else on the team? What we DO NOT have is a big physical space-owning guy who destroys CBs in the air and is bank in the red zone. We have the slot/possession smurfs who play smaller than their stature, and we have a stretch the field speed guy. If we can't really gain a new dimension in our offense with the guys available at WR, it's kind of a waste to pick one that high. Go TE or some other position of need here.

I wouldn't be so sure about that..

The more I read about the type of WR this offense needs the more the Brandon Marshall trade pisses me off. He was a big physical space owning guy that put up good RAC numbers and was a mismatch in the end zone. And we traded that for Egnew and Dallas Thomas :bobdole:

ti77 - I love the Draft but I'm pretty ignorant about how a GM assembles a board. It sounds like you have a deeper understanding.
Let's hypothetically assume that our preferences are O-line (ZBS fits only) - we need RT and an OG, a tackling mike LB, WR (playmaker), TE, Safety. I also think that we should consider drafting a backup QB. Does that mean we only rate the players in those positions or is there a means of discounting the ratings based on the team needs. Eg Calvin Pryor is the top Safety in the Draft and say we rate him very highly. Maybe there is a surprise and he's available when we pick at the #19 slot. Safety is seen as a team need but a much, much lower need compared to the 2 O-linemen, do we take him because he is BPA on our board?

most of you want a qb or wr in the first round every year, even if we can't block anyone and already have some good ones.

Obviously o line is a need but the only guy worth talking about at 19 for o line, Zach Martin, is a guard that we will have to play tackle. No thanks. Might as well go bold and go WR. how many more needs do we have in the starting roster?
