2) I never said I was a better fan, just stating that it is idiotic to trade away 1 of our only elite players regardless of age. It won't make us better in the short term.
3) Dion Jordan isn't elite because he is a 3-4 linebacker playing in a 4-3 system. He was hurt during training camp and never made the full transition, this is well documented.
4) It is impossible to finish 1-16
5) Wake is one of the best 4-3 DE's in the league and can't be replaced through a free agent or rookie. Maybe Vernon was so good last year because he didn't face the double teams like Wake has.

You may be as sick of losing as all of us our, but trading away all of our best players for rookies and free agents will not make us better this year. I say get a grip because with all the problems you listed we were still in the hunt. I believe that an upgraded defensive line, starting Jenkins instead of Wheeler at LB, and a better #2 running back will get us that extra win we need to be a playoff team. There is no need to put us in an even worse spot by downgrading at our best position because he is 32 years old.

I feel your passion bro, but I gotta tell you trading wake right now would be the best time to get value for him. Hes getting older and we won't be winning any sb in the near future. So I would trade him and give him the chance to compete for a contender while he's still great. The guy deserves to play for a great team.

While I love Wake, he is 32 years old and starting to show his age in the form of injuries. No man can fight the ravages of time. He might have 1-2 years left to play. If you take the emotion out of the equation then trading him makes a lot of sense. We have a very young DE in Vernon on the one side and Jordan waiting in the wings to take Wakes spot going forward. If someone trades us a 2nd for Wake, its a win-win for both teams. We clear a position for Jordan. We get a high pick to use on another position of need like DT or OL while clearing some salary to address another position via FA. To wait for Wake to retire and get nothing in return makes little business sense.

With the 2nd rd pick that Oakland got in the Jordan trade up they took- OT Menelik Watson, who could have been manning RT for us if we didn't do that trade. So for anyone who thinks that the cost wasn't high for that trade, trade chart aside, I'd use Watson as contrary evidence. That being said, Dion Jordan is an extremely talented player who is, imo, playing out of position at DE. If we traded him after his rookie year, unless there are some major flaws that I'm unaware of, that is a further sign of organizational incompetence imo. He belongs at OLB, at least created a defensive scheme that allows him to play more in space. If they don't, they never should have drafted him in the first place. And even with Ireland gone the trade happened, the player is here, and shame on the coaching staff if they lack the knowledge or imagination to put Jordan in a role that maximizes his talents. At some point this team has to relearn how to maximize talent, like Shula did or the Patriots have done with players like Welker and Ninkovich.

Don't forget that Wake is a physical marvel and a total devotee to maintaining and optimizing his health. Plus he's a hard worker and a good guy, I think that he has a good 3-4 years left in the tank.

I think Wake is great, certainly one of my favorite players on the team, but I wouldn't be upset if we traded him for good value. Good teams trade players when they are just past their peak, but still retaining their peak value. It's how NE stacks up high picks every year. I think we are solid enough in our pass rush to be able to do it without taking too much of a hit in defensive production, particularly if we use the cap savings and picks to shore up the OL and other parts of the defense that are in desperate need, such as keeping Wheeler's overpaid ass on the bench. Trade him to a contender in the NFC and it's win-win.

That being said, OP, you are taking a game WAY too seriously.

Why not give Hickey and Philbin the support for whatever they decide to do and see how it goes? Trading him (or any other player for that matter) might be the right thing to do for the overall and long term benefit of the team.

BTW, did Wake even play the last 2 games of last season when we needed him?

I get the logic, but why not just sign Albert with our crap ton amount cap we have available and then maybe packagae Wake and the 19th to move up and get Clowney. Clowney on one side and Jordan on the other......or we could keep Wake as a proven player and use the pick for a real need

We have major holes in other areas and some guys want to BLOW UP the DL (arguably our best position of strength), trade Wake, let Soliai and Starks walk, and stake the franchise on jordan LOL. That is ZERO steps forward and FIVE steps back. Not what I call "rebuilding".

You can't PAY them all - you can sign some of them but two are on the other side of their best days and are gonna want to get paid. You write as though we can sign them because we say so, some of these players who can be FAs
