If Tim Couch is so good then why..........

He wasnt drafted ahead of manning (different draft) he was however drafted ahead of mcnabb/culpeper I believe.

Yeap....98 was Mannings year he was #1 overall. 99 was Couch's year where he was #1 overall....followed by Mcnabb at #2....Culpepper was #11 in that draft

Yeah, but that means nothing... how many QB's were drafted ahead of Marino??

Couch has never shown much of anything... he might be better worth taking a flyer on NEXT year... but this late in the game, I don't know if I would do it... especially if Rosenfels is showing progress and is close to being able to compete at the #2 spot.

that is correct.

couch went 1. mcnabb went 2 and got booed which was funny considerable how good he is now. daunte went 11.

hahahaha this is funny.

in the 2001 draft, AJ Feeley went in the 5th round (155 overall )while Sage Rosenfels went in the fourth round (109 overall)

now that is funny.

Gus is not your future. Should the fins get Couch, I still think Saban will still look to go either via the draft or FA for your future qb. Lienart , Omar Jacobs or FA to be groomed as your future fins qb while Couch, future back up. He's still young and could be a decent back up with the right coaching.

Omar Jacobs!!!

Theres nothing funny about how that is translating to no success for us as we know it. More reason to take a chance on Couch who just might prove some people wrong. This is all pointless anyways...Couch won't come here...Feeley will be cut at the end of the year and hopefully we'll draft someone next year and stop this Dolphin QB Recycling program we have here.

Is he still available? Im not bashing anybody in the room here but I get so sick of hearing in the media or "In the wind" that the next scrub of the week is suddenly available. When feeley came on board we all thought well anybodys better then feedler! Even Tom Brady and Kurt Warner were at least on somebodys depth chart. But if a qb is out of work and or keeps getting cut or breaking down all the time then there probably is a good reason for it. I like what Saban said the other day. The qb's we have for right now are good enough for the system that we have. He's decided to make the best of it until somtime in the future im sure when he can pay for a breese or a phillips. Teams can get it done with out a good qb. Just take Baltimore and Tampa as some examples recent cases. So a "Team" can go pretty far if they can play together. Hopefully next season we can pony up some cash and finally get a gun slinger in here.
Couch is horrible, he has a weak a@@ arm and crumbles under pressure!

Well, he had all sorts of problems in Cleveland from injuries to severe lack of talent around him. Like most #1 picks at the qb position he was rushed into action before he was ready and with an inferior team. Bottom line, maybe a change of scenery, a new system, and a healthy shoulder is all he needs to resurrect his career. Why not take a chance and see what he has to offer?

Wow....someone who actually sees this in the right light. Good call....bottom line is it can only help us to try this guy out. If he sucks then ...peace....if not then perhaps he can help us in some form.

He is available because he has been rehabbing from shoulder surgery and was not on the market (technically he was, but he and his agent took him off the market to get the shoulder back to normal).

There are various reasons why he is available as well...

1) Poor handling by the Browns coaching staff. He was played when he shouldn't have and then Butch brought in competition with Knitna. He fell out of favor with the FO, due to his injury situation and his inability to unequivocally take the QB spot on the Browns.
2) There was friction between Butch and the FO thruout his tenure there as to whether Couch was their future or not...I don't think the FO was sold on him and Butch wanted him to be the guy.
3) Multiple injuries. He had this shoulder issue prior to being signed by the Packers and never seem to recover from it until he had the surgery. The Packers, being a little tenuous from Favre's on-again, off-again retirement, decided to dump Couch and go with something more secure in the draft.
4) He had the surgery late last year. He will probably not be recovered from completely until late this year, assuming he does not overuse the arm before then.
5) His doctors and rehab speciallist now feel he is ready for the next step.

BTW, that rehab is being done here in So. Fla., which from a media standpoint automatically points to the Fins...

The Fins QB situation is tenuous, at best. For anyone who thinks that Gus, AJ, Sage or Berlin will take us to the promised land is sadly mistaken. Now, IMHO, AJ offers the most upside, but that is my opinion...I have seen Gus in action and feel he will quickly turn into a liability for us, unless everything goes just right (meaning all the ?? we have on the team respond to the program..the OL comes of age, RW and RB coexist and complement each other in the backfield, the secondary comes together, we stay reasonably injury free, Boston can contribute, etc...)

Sage and Berlin are ok players, but obviously not at the point that they need to be. Sage has had 3 years to secure a spot and hasn't done it. Berlin's tenure at UM was mediocre (compared to the rest of the talent on the team for the 2 years he was there) at best. He hasn't really done anything to make the coaches feel he would compete for a starting role as of yet here.

So, add to the fact that we desperately need a better QB and the guys on the roster aren't getting the job done, Couch being back on the FA circuit...it's a pretty obvious connection that he gets associated with us. Would Saban be interested ?? I don't really know, but I would venture to say that he would be at the very least, on par with the guys we have. He might have more upside, provided the injury is healed sufficiently, to challenge Gus or AJ late this year. IF he were signed, it would certainly send Sage packing. Cutting Gus or AJ, from a cap angle don't really make sense at this point. Neither has trade value and if Saban and Linehan are more comfortable with Gus, they would still want someone to back him up in case of injury...

I don't know if Couch offers more than what we have, but he certainly makes the position better provided his shoulder is sufficiently healed...

Simple. he wasnt able to even throw a ball til recently since last year before camp, well before that even. Noone is going to sign a guy that could barely throw 5 yards in teh preseason last year when they dont know what the deal is with his arm.

I am not sold on Couch for that one reason, he was never a so-called strong-armed qb and with this injury after 4 years, is it a system of chronic problems? I just have concerns as to how his arm is gonna hold up. The injury was not the result of a direct hit that caused him to be hurt. It was bad mechanics as well while getting hit or being pressured and throwing off his back foot throwing all arm.

Ok Im thinking about doing something CRAZY. Im going to not take a stance on it until the ...coaching staff....looks at Couch. With all due respect to the .....talent scouts.....at Finheaven, Im going to see what the coach thinks of Couch. I think we have a great OC ( he OCed college in my hometown) and I think hell make the right call.

hes not so good. fiedler is better than couch.

what! i would take a healthy couch over fiedler any day. Couch played for an expansion team, no oline, no talent. I think he would flourish here. I would take him (healthy ) over sage and berlin any day.
