If Tim Couch is so good then why..........

Go For Couch!!!

Hey, for the price that Couch could be had, CHEAP I would imagine, there is little risk to giving him a shot. He had some good games in Cleveland in a bad system with bad talent, not much for running game there so play action couldn't be used much. Heck if you've played fantasy football you knew when he had some big games.

I say you replace Feeley with him, Gus, Couch, and Sage are a better 3-some. Maybe get like a 6th or 7th rnd pick for Feeley. A loss but still something.

If we can find someone to sling the ball, we could do one of those "they were 4-12 and this year 12-4, and division champs" things. Besides Couch's experience of reading the filed and getting rid fo teh ball is better than Feeley's and with a suspect O Line, we could use someone that can thow it away or make a play.

Personally, i think the fins should try him out. When couch played in cleveland, he had the worst o-line I have ever seen (yes, even worse than miami's last year). I go to UK so obviously I'm a little bias. However, the guy was brilliant in college, and I still think he could be at least decent as a pro. Still yet, I don't think he is a long term fix for our qb woes. Give him a shot and see how it goes. He's coming off of surgery so we could probably pick him up for cheap anyway.

You guys are crazy..he was a number 1 pick for a reason. I am from Kentucky and watched him all through college, he has unbelievable talent and arm strenth, he just hasn't been playing in the system in the NFL that he was in college. Hal Mumme ran a wide open, throw almost every down offense (including fourth) and Couch made it work. I'm not saying he is a pro-bowler or anything, just that for what we might be able to get him for ($) compared to what it woulda costed a few years ago....why not? He might be hungry for a last chance to prove everyone wrong, and it Linemans offense, he could excel. You never know....

I agree!! Get 'em cheap, can't hurt, may be a pleasant surprise. I hear the Giants are interested, but I'm sure he'd rather play for us as he'd have a shot to be a starter again, where he won't under Ele Manning (who quote me, will not be very good lik ehis brother) Over paid and drafted.

None of us are sold on him, but I think he might be decent, and obviously, something was seen in him.

Hes looking to probably sign some where cheap, for a shot to start. Invite him to camp, lets see if he can do something.

Hell, I was disapointed we got rid of mcnown years back. We kept him for one season and didn't even see what the kid could do in pre-season the next year?

Right team, different situation, people play differently.

Tim Couch is the biggest bust in NFL history.

Ever hear of Ryan Leaf or Todd Maranonvich? They were much bigger busts than Couch. He could still end up somewhere and have decent career.

Neither defending NOR supporting Couch with this post. But in his defense(and this can go for any player at any position on any team) HERE GOES: Just how good were those teams he played on in Cleveland? Did the offensive style fit his style of play? How much pressure was he under on a consistent basis. Did he have more than an average running game in his worst year(s). From how far behind was his team playing? Was he forced to pass alot, therefore becoming one-dimensional? If I recall correctly, Couch had to throw the ball alot and he made his share of mistakes, but the guy has ability. In the right system, he could do well. Is it Linehan's system? Maybe. He could shine in the right offense. He wasn't BAD in Cleveland, he mirrored his teams overall performance by being inconsistent. That can be attributed to more than just his ability. There are way more variables involved. Tim Couch is a smart QB with above average skills. He would, of course, need a line to play behind because scrambling isn't his strongest skill. He would need a good running game for support and the guy can make some plays with his throws. HE's a pretty accurate passer - hovering around the 60% mark for his career. His biggest problem is his tendency to force passes. That can be corrected. But he has all the intangibles a QB needs to be successful. But to outright say he sucks just doesn't make sense to me. This post isn't about grabbing Couch and anointing him our new starter. It's about giving a guy with some potential a HARMLESS look to see what he has to offer and how his skills fit into our philosophy.

Yeap....98 was Mannings year he was #1 overall. 99 was Couch's year where he was #1 overall....followed by Mcnabb at #2....Culpepper was #11 in that draft

Not to nitpick but Manning was #2 overall behind the all-time pro Ryan Leaf!! :D

Couch has sucked so far, but he'd be a good #3 QB on a team that needs to develop a QB, which is us.

hes not so good. fiedler is better than couch.

That's insane. Couch has much more ability than Fiedler and was a QB in Cleveland. Name a successful QB that has come out of Cleveland ever. Bernie Kosar and tht's it. Couch was mentally ready for the game but he has had two years to mature so mayeb he can handle it now. Worth giving him a workout and if he's healthy a shot to make the team. Fiedler had a top 5 defense behind him, options at wideout, and a good running game and still managed to guide us out of the playoffs for two straight years.

What have we got to lose with giving Couch a tryout. Maybe he is worth something or not, but we will never know unless we give it a shot. Besides he probably wants to play for Miami, being from Ft. Lauderdale.
