If we had drafted Mallet?

Mallet will not amount to anything in this League. Same people wanting him now are the same people that wanted Brady Quinn.

To the contrary.. I never, never, never wanted the product of the ND hype machine and rapid alumni groups Brady Quinn (would have wanted Samardzija though) but sure wanted Mallett and remain pizzed that he went for a bargain basement price to our arch enemy and not us! Maybe not as bad as Saban's brainfart muffing the Aaron Rodgers pick, but I fully expect this to come back and haunt us more than a little.

And to the OP: I'd have expected Mallett to step in if Henne stumbled after the 8th game.

Ryan Mallett hasn't even been getting a lot of reps behind Brady and Hoyer... Belichick has talked about the rush to get as many reps as possible for his #1 and #2 quarterbacks to get ready in this condensed off season. For example, Mallett only had one play on Thursday as the team was finishing up red zone work...

One of the things Mallett talked about working on was footwork, and he's made huge strides in this area already in Patriots camp. Of course, there's been plenty of buzz from the coaches about how "the ball just jumps out of his hand effortlessly"... but we already knew that didn't we?

The Patriots know what they have in Mallett, but they're not going to announce it to everybody... not yet anyway.

As for if Mallett was here, he'd be pushing Henne for the starting quarterback position....

Definitely a bump worthy thread down the road...

Well based on how the draft worked out we could have both Pouncy and Mallet so our offensive line would be in the same shape in theory. If would have forced us to sign that running back from New York in FA and or resign Ricky and Ronnie. That would not have been such a bad idea IMO as much of the issue the last half of the year was offensive line more than anything. Remember Ireland stated he tried to move back up at the end of the 2nd or top of the 3rd for Mallet.
Moving on here is the issue with drafting Mallet with a real high pick or trading a high pick for an Orton. Basically right away you are creating a QB controversy on a team that certainly does not need one. Its one thing to bring in a talent at a lower round or pick a veteran QB on the rebound but if the phins were to have given up the barn in terms of a high draft pick then Henne is done and that guy whoever it is better be the answer. I doubt Mallet would be the first year and Orton might be a mild improment in the short run.
To answer your question it would be Henne on a shoe string in the beginning of the season and the first game he faltered Sporano would be forced to play Mallet and after that if Mallet did not work out thats it the team is screwed because Henne would be done.
So the line up or depth chart would read Mallet, Henne , Moore but should really read Mallet, Moore, Henne because I think Henne would just fold at least for the rest of this year for the phins once he is pulled out of the lineup.
Henne can get it done but he is going to need the offensive line to do its job , a running game plus Marshall not pouting and catch the darn ball.

First of all, this is a hypothetical thread; I know we did not draft him. For those of you that would say "Get over it; move on!", this thread is not for you. Please feel free to ignore and not post on this thread. This is for those of us that want to talk hypothetical for fun. Here are the questions: If we had drafted Mallet...
1. Where do you think he would end up on the depth chart?
2. Do you think we still would have brought in Moore or have gone his Mallet, Henne and Brandstater/Devlin?
Get over it; move on!

Ryan Mallet wasn't ready to start in 2011. PERIOD

With all the questions that have been placed on our QB situation, we have two 2010 starters as Matt Moore was Panthers' first starter of the season. Both are coming from bad season, but there's a big chance any of them might turn the page under Daboll's offensive system.

That said, Mallet should have impacted on cutting Brandstater & being a bad place for Devlin so the depth chart at QB in this scenario should have been: HENNE/MOORE/MALLET

Mallet is a poor character guy. I'm convinced of it. He may start out looking like Marino 2.0 (though I have my doubts) but before long that kid is going to make choices that make JaMarcus look like a life coach.

If we had drafted Mallet we would have a QB controversy and all in all we would win fewer games this year. In his 2-4 starts Mallet would have struggled. At the end of the season Sparano would get fired and we would have a new regime, which would immediately get rid of Henne, then likely ship Mallet elsewhere and bring their own guy.

Fans would applaud the move and say Mallet "stinks", "blows" and is worse than John Beck.

We have a better chance this way.

We would've been screwed. Still would've had a crapy interior o line and the slowest/least mobile QB in history in mallet

Wrong, we didn't take Pouncey over him, we took the RB in round 2 over him. Which could have been filled in free agency or meant the return of Ronnie Brown to pair with Bush ETAL.

I'll worry about Mallett when he gets meaningful playing time. So let's talk about this in 3 years when Brady is 37. Until then, Mallett is the 3rd stringer.

Sometimes I think the Patriots draft players just so Miami cant get them...as seen with Mallet and the 2 back to back RB's they drafted before our pick.

honestly, if we are going to complain about QBs we should've drafted and didn't, can we atleast complain about ones that have proven something? That means WV should complain about Ryan, everybody should complain about Rodgers, and passing on Brees twice.

But with Mallett, as of right now he's exactly in the same position Devlin is in; third string QB going against third string defense.

The Pats may end up cutting Mallet in the final cuts. If that is the case,we will have a shot at him if Ireland wants him.
Who would you keep, Devlin or Mallet?
Tough call.
