Has the first overall pick ever been traded before?

In 2004 the Chargers had the first pick and drafted Eli Manning. Ten minutes later they traded him to the Giants, who drafted Philip Rivers.
I don't remember all the details but I know the Chargers got the Giants 2005 first round pick.

In 1997 the Jets had the first pick, but traded it a couple of days before the draft to St Louis, who selected Orlando Pace.

2012 1st, 2nd, 2013 1st, 2nd

Remember that if we pick 1st overall, we have the 1st pick in EVERY round. So those are high picks all around. I also find the best damn Right-Tackle money can buy in free agency next year.
I'm 99.9% sure I'd stick with Luck but if the team offering to trade were another team picking in the top 10 and are likely to be picking in the top 10 next year I'd make the trade.

Over the next two drafts this gives me potentially 3 top 10 draft picks and 4 high 2nd round picks. Maybe I don't get Luck and I get the next best guy. Over the next two drafts I'll be able to surround that guy with a lot of talent.

this was my logic with this scenario... say we get the vikings 3rd overall pick... we have our choice potentially between, luck, jones, and barkley...
not only that we have 2 2nd round picks this year to either trade up into the 1st again, or draft with basically the 33rd and 35th pick to solidify the line, nab a TE, or whatever.

next year we probably still struggle because lets face it, peyton manning struggled his first year as starter... so in 2013 we probably have a top ten pick of our own, plus the viking top 15 pick, and and 2 early second rounders for the 2nd year in a row....

this doesn't even take into considertion picks we attain from other potential scenarios like trading marshall etc etc etc...

I honestly don't think I could let andrew luck slide through our fingers. trouble is, I have no idea who will be in charge next year, and the fact that it is a possibility got me thinking.

I'd settle for no less than a 1st and 2nd in 2012 and a 1st and 2nd in 2013.

Obviously what matters is who you are trading with....are we trading with the number 3 team or number 22? HUGE difference in 1st round picks there.

I don't think we could be mad if they traded back to the 2nd or 3rd pick, which would guarantee us Jones or Barkley and we picked up a bunch of picks. I still would rather they take Luck if given the chance, but situations like this can make a franchise, and none of us know for certain if Luck will pan out.

Ed Reed, Andre Johnson, Aaron Rodgers, Calvin Johnson, AP, Revis, Suh, Clay Matthews. All of those guys and i make the trade.

We shouldn't draft a QB as the first pick of the draft. We need at least 3 more O-linemen as the first pick of the draft before we go to a QB. I think this organization should just wait at least 4 or 5 more years before they decide to get a QB. It's what we've been putting off, and it must be for a reason, so why ruin the trend?..... :rolleyes2:

Aaron Rodgers or the coach and GM's heads on a platter. Literally.
