I see a ton of people on this board turning already into the Tannehill version of what i liked to call "Henne Fluffers" a bunch of people on this board and elsewhere who are comparing Tanney to Greise and Marino, saying the phins have never missed on a first rounder (yeah Shula?) and other types of insanity.

The Truth - The kid has the raw physical talent and skills to be a good WCO QB in this league. He apparently has the brain for it as well. It is pretty obvious to me, that from day 1 Tannehill was the main focus of this staff/fo as far as Qb of the future. This is good b/c it means that with Philbin and Sherman in house, they all came to the conclusion that Tanney was the better option than Flynn. No one knows either of those guys better so we should have confidence in that. HOWEVER, he is EXTREMELY raw. I know all that hype b.s. about "you draft qb's high and they play now, play now impact now" all that NONSENSE. but i'm telling you, this kid is not ready to start right now, and if he does, and we wind up picking top 5 i the draft, hell we could have gotten a qb next year so whats the point? Tanney was drafted to be developed which is why we went out of our way to sign gerrard to compete with moore. THat is the best possible scenerio for us and for him as well. Let him learn and turn his raw skills into true starter caliber stuff.

Now, if fans are going to start chanting and complaining and calling the radio stations crying about they want him to start now etc and b*tching about not buying tickets if hes not the starter and whatever else, and then building him up to be marino part 2 again - your only setting yourselves up for more anguish. I know there are several smart fans on this board who understand what the pick was and are ok with it. (the people who are flat out pissed at the pick need to relax as well although i might have opted for a pass rusher, but if this is who they pegged as they QB of the future let em go with it)

now - lets shelf this for a while, i know there is nothing else to talk about, but tannehill is not going to make an impact anytime soon. What we need now is a solid pass rusher and some WR's and OLineman. our line does not fit the mold of Philbin/shermans offense. we certainly need a WR, and we desperately need a good pass rusher. its not about getting tannehill all this shiney sparkly weapons to play with - its about filling out this team more. day 2 is tonight lets see what they do with it, b/c tannehill was not much of a surprise and does not make an immediate impact for better of worse.

You couldn't have posted this in the thread I created? Since it is just a reply to my thread. Re-read my thread, I never said Tannehill is Griese or Marino. I just pointed out that Miami as a franchise has a VERY good history when it comes to picking quarterbacks in the first round. Never said that Tannehill is going to be a Hall Of Fame player.

Nublar - i only saw the title of your thread, did not read it, but my point remains, the dolphins of old have little to do with the new dolphins (as we know) but i was not referring to you about the HOF griese/marino thing - someone made a thread late last night that literally stated tanney will be at the level of griese and marino and in the HOF.

registeredguy - well then yeah of course you start him, but i really do not see that happening, and base don what philbin said i dont think he does either.

If we did not pick him and he played for another team and turn out to be great you would be saying why didnt we pick him at 8. You can never win with some people.

everything i've heard from analysts is that they know he needs to develop and needs time to work on mechanics .. i gotta believe unless he comes in and blows stuff away .. he'll be benched til next season

Then he should have never been drafted Top 10.

That is incorrect, if Philbin/Sherman/Ireland feel that in 2-3 years Tannehill will develop into a franchise QB then you make the pick. Steve Young, Dilfer, Mayock, McShay all say with a year or maybe two of developing and sitting behind moore this kid will be a franchise QB. In 2-3 years if he develops into a top 5-10 QB like McShay says he will then nobody will look back and think we reached for him. If you identify a QB and feel he can be a franchise QB then you go get him its that simple.

A player who was said to grade out higher than Flacco and picked in the TOP 10, is now suppose to sit for a few years? Anyone see the BS in one of the 2 statements?

Everyone is giddy over this guy. I won't be his fanboy, but I do hope he pans out. Because if he doesn't, we will be full circle in 3 years drafting a new QB and finding a new HC and GM.

A bunch of those guys didn't like the Cam Newton pick last year.

Personally i think the value was a little high for Tanny but I'm willing to take a wait and see approach and trust that our experts made the right decision.
The risk also isn't as high nowadays.
As of right now I'm supporting Ryan Tannehill to have great success as the next Miami Dolphins QB.

who said he graded out higher than flacco and who said he was a top 10 caliber pick just b/c miami liked a FUTURE franchise qb enough to not take any chances. (which good for them, if thats there guy get him) Cam Newton may not have been "liked" by some people, but he was NFL ready, and once luck was not coming out of college Newton was probably the best or at least top 2 qbs in that draft - tannehill is a much different situation. He needs to have space to develop lets let it happen.

I get what a lot of you are saying about letting him sit a year or two but why wait and see how he does in camp first? He is only going to learn so much from bench and if he is the #3QB it not like he is going to get a lot of reps to help him get better and what reps he does get will be against 2nd and 3rd string players. I think if he proves he cam play in camp then he should get a chance to learn on the field. We also will find out if he is going to be the long term answer.

The NFL draft just started last night. Why would anyone want to shelve draft talk? This is just the beginning. Reality is Ryan Tannehill was drafted with our TOP TEN pick. Why would anyone want him to sit? So he can gain knowledge sitting behind D. Garrad and M. Moore? Umm ill pass. Id rather him come to training camp healthy and light up the field. If he wins the QB battle this will get VERY interesting.
