I'll take Vince Young

Having seen most of Vince Young's games to date (albeit not the ULL scrimmage):

Vince Young = Matt Jones II

You guys will see how overrated and terrible Vince Young truely is, this saturday night when OHIO STATE shuts him down in the shoe. Also when you are watching that, look for me charging the field after OSU wins.

Actually, you will see how great of an athlete Vince Young is, and then you will see how much he has improved as a passer. Then you will see Texas' OL blowing open huge holes and their stable of RB's tearing off big gains. Then you will see a very quiet Ohio State crowd as Texas walks off with a W.

Your bragging about Vince putting up a whopping 173 yds against a nobody???

You mised the point of me posting his stats! He was accused of being a runner. I posted his stats to show that he's not hogging the ball every down like he's done before. He accounted for 4 TD's, 3 passing and 1 running. The other 32 points came from a good running game. he didn't need to throw for 300 yds. But he was accurate (76%) and stayed in the pocket.

VY also put up those 173 yards in 1 half of play. He only played 1 series in the second half.

The only thing you've done, Schleprock, after reading this entire thread is manage to insult people with virtually every post, while not making a single robust point yourself.

Everyone you've named...can you tell me WHY you've named them, aside from them being a highly productive college quarterback that did not make it in the pros? I'm serious, because quite frankly, you can list your entire list of quarterbacks as "reason" why no productive college quarterback will ever become a good professional. Matt Leinart is a good quarterback? Oh but what about Tim Couch, Kliff Kingsbury, Andre Ware, blah blah blah.

Come on dude. Chad Pennington has been a VERY good quarterback when healthy. Does the shotgun formation offense have anything to do with Pennington being injury prone? Steve McNair has had a very fruitful career. I suppose Drew Brees is another guy that "doesn't count". We have to ignore Byron Leftwich's talent and career because he doesn't count, oh ok I see. Any Ben Roethlesberger doesn't count either even though he came from a shotgun offense. Ok. I get ya.

Who counts again?

Yea we can''t get into the student section without an ID anymore, and regular admission are over 100$ now. Looks like I'll be watching from a tv, hopefully i don't pass out before halftime

and he put these #'s up against who ????

There is no question that ULA-LA sucked. The point, however, is that VY has progressively become a better passer throughout his career. He has had all summer to improve on last year and work with his very young and inexperienced recieving corps. He is now to the point where he is a very effective passer to complement his ridiculous running ability. I am not claiming that he can throw like Marino or even Vick, but he is good enough and continues to get better. He showed complete command of the offense in that game and it looked like he was just toying with them. In just a few short days you will see why Michigan could not stop him all day long in the Rose Bowl. If you try to contain him and stop him from running, he will just hand off to one of his RB's or play action and throw one over the top. I don't envy the task of having to figure out how to stop him. I am just glad he plays for the Horns.

I think the people on the Vince Young bandwagon need to take a gander at a few bowling green games. This is a guy that has a much better chance of becoming a dolphin if we suck this year.

I am not saying anything bad about Jacobs. He is a very good QB and probably will get drafted higher than VY as a QB. VY might even stay another year to work on his passing skills (none of Texas's highly rated players have left early since Mack Brown has been the coach). There is no question that Jacobs is a better passer then VY. However, despite his strange release, VY has a very strong arm and puts the ball where it needs to be. He will continue to get better and has all the skills to be an excellent QB in the right system. Or he can become the next Randy Moss (without the attitude). Your choice.

Does the guy have the measurables to become the next Randy Moss or Matt Jones? Sorry, but it gets me when people don't quite realize, or take for granted, that most of the reason Randy Moss is Randy Moss and Matt Jones is Matt Jones is because they are both over 6'4" tall (Jones is 6'6"), and both have sub-4.4 speed in the 40 yard dash.

I realize Young is 6'5" tall, but if he does not have sub-4.4 speed then the Moss and Jones comparisons really should stop. Jones and Moss are once-in-a-lifetime type athletes with their size/speed combos and that is why Randy is so dominant, and why I believe Jones will be dominant.

Jacobs, btw, also has an unorthodox delivery. He's got a 3/4 flick throw that could be compared favorably to Dan Marino's, but he gets excellent spiral on all his passes, shows excellent accuracy, and has tons and tons of velocity on his passes...leading me to believe that his motion will not need to be changed. I would like to watch Young play, to see if he has the same things going for him.
